The Platform Unit Electrical Design group is responsible for development of new space electronics units for SSL spacecraft. This includes spacecraft power regulation and distribution equipment which interfaces with state of the art solar array and battery technologies to provide up to 25kW of power to spacecraft payload and bus equipment. As a Power Electronics Develpment Staff Engineer, you would be responsible for designing, analyzing and testing new electronics boards and units from prototypes through qualification. You would lead engineering development tests for a complex power distribution or control unit, for either earth-orbiting or interplanetary spacecraft.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the design of electronic circuit card assemblies for flight units

  • Develops circuit designs from design requirements

  • Create and release electrical schematics

  • Performs circuit simulations and analysis

  • Coordinates and performs engineering development tests and releases test summaries

  • Determines specifications for design, development, and test activities

  • Prepares and presents external design reviews with management and customers

  • May perform specialized research or engineering studies

Scope and Supervision:

  • Provide functional guidance to technical support personnel

  • Provide guidance to less experienced engineers for design, analysis, and test efforts

  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action

  • May perform significant technical writing or review of proposals

  • Receives specific assignments with limited supervision

Position Requirements:
Required Education, Experience & Technical Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, a related discipline or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 5 years related working experience required (3 with MS, 0-1 with PhD)

  • Understanding of mathematics, physics, and chemistry as they relate to electrical circuits

  • Proficient in the use of electrical simulation tools (e.g., SPICE)

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools

We are searching for a Power Electronics Engineer to help us design high-voltage solutions for our autonomous driving hardware platform. Responsibilities * Develop high voltage strategy for powering self driving computer and critical components * Develop Electrical architecture for high power DC/DC (up to 5kW, 600V) * Component selection, schematic capture and layout direction for high power DC/DC design * Work with mechanical and thermal engineers to package and cool high power DC/DC * Work with safety and validation teams to ensure safe implementation of high voltage design * Develop power distribution strategy for high voltage power distribution * Develop and maintain procedures for high voltage/high power safety Essential * B.S. degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or an appropriate engineering field * 5+ years of recent power electronics systems development for use in harsh or automotive environments * Experience designing and building power electronics circuits in the 2-5 kW range, up to 600 Vdc, from initial concept to manufacturing * Experience working with and evaluating arch flash and electrical shock hazards * Strong understanding of electronics design and integration with mechanical systems for structural and thermal support * Understanding of high power isolated DC/DC converters, solid-state power distribution, grounding, and analog circuit design * Desire to work hands-on, as part of a team, in both development and production phases of a product lifecycle Desirable * Experience designing to meet EMI/EMC and power quality requirements * Experience designing electronics and systems in automotive environments * Experience with fault tolerant and high reliability systems * Experience with schematic capture and board layout in Allegro/Concept HDL Working at Aurora Our work has real purpose.
