As the Power Electronics (PE) Controller Engineering Technical Specialist (TS) you will have the global responsibilities for FCA's PE controller product development and research for all electric vehicle platforms which include mHEV, HEV, PHEV and BEV. The Engineer must be a strong systems-focused team player with interdisciplinary experience/expertise, and willing to work in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing cost effective and reliable PE Controllers using cutting edge technologies, simulation tools, and test and evaluation equipment

  • Establishing and applying PE Controller best practices from design to product launch, including supporting validation and testing

  • Creating, promoting, and implementing the global FCA technology roadmap for PE Controllers

  • Supporting creation of Component Specifications from vehicle, system and software requirements including requirements for Durability, Warranty, Safety and Performance at component level

  • Supporting development of power electronic controller DVP&R and all required development/validation testing to ensure achievement of all functional objectives and assure compliance to program goals

  • Participating in supplier assessments and Critical Design Reviews of PE Controller requirements, algorithms, and deliverables

  • Working with the chosen suppliers and manufacturing entities to ensure designs are robust to customer requirements, meet exact function, and are manufacturable without defect

  • Participating in post-test inspection reviews including detailed failure analysis, and recommend changes to product specifications as necessary

  • Developing/enhancing PE Controller Tools, Methods, and Test Platforms

  • Providing subject matter expertise, mentoring, and managing problem resolution teams

  • Working with FCA Inverter Hardware Teams and Suppliers

  • Working with FCA cross-function/vehicle teams, suppliers, and universities to develop/implement advanced technologies for next generation electric vehicle technologies

  • Maintaining relevant technical documents, best practice, and sign-off documents

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical or equivalent Engineering Degree

  • Minimum 7 years' experience in electronics and circuit design, development, fabrication, validation

  • Expertise in electronics Simulation Tools

  • Experience in microcontroller families, architectures, and hardware-software interface

  • Experience in PCB layout and EMC considerations

  • Experience in controller communications and sensor interfaces

  • Experience in controller Functional Safety

  • Experience in development of DFMEA, DVP&R, and Validation Plans

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and technical problem solving ability

  • Highly rated for leadership and teamwork

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong interest in the automotive industry and electrified powertrain systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical or equivalent Engineering Degree

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in electronics and circuit design, development, fabrication, validation

  • In-depth understanding of Power Electronics

  • Experience with electric motor and inverter Controls and Software

  • Understanding of electrified vehicle fundamentals

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, self-motivated and able to work independently

  • Knowledge in DFSS methodologies

  • Ability to travel 5-10% internationally
