As the Power Electronics Center of Excellence (CoE) Lead you will have the global responsibilities for FCA's research and development for the entire electric vehicle platforms which include mHEV, HEV, PHEV and BEV. Main responsibilities include but are not limited for components in scope; Critical Design Review of all high/low power electronics for electric propulsion, High/Low voltage DC-DC converters, EV Charging Systems, Power Distribution Centers at each development phase, guide the Design and Release process, apply best practice and lessons learned from design to launch, support validation and testing plan/process of all EV power electronics systems. The CoE Lead will help creating, promoting, and implementing the FCA technology roadmap for power electronics systems for global electric vehicle programs. The CoE Lead will perform advance design reviews and component/ system/sub system approval of power electronics systems during all development phases. The CoE Lead will manage problem resolution teams, and lead development of dyno facilities related power electronics components/subsystem development. The Lead's responsibilities will include working with FCA Design Release Engineers (DREs) responsible for HV/LV Power Inverter Modules (PIM) / Power Electronics Bay (PEB), On-board charging module (OBCM), Integrated Dual Charging Modules (IDCM), DC-DC Converters. The CoE lead will work with FCA cross-function/vehicle teams, suppliers, and universities to develop/implement advance technologies for next generation electric vehicle technologies. The CoE Lead will also maintain relevant technical documents, best practice, and sign-off documents in collaboration with the global CoE organization.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited program

  • Minimum 8 years of engineering experience

  • Minimum 10 years of overall power electronics/power conversion experience in Low voltage and High voltage

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in HV/LV power inverter design, DC-DC converters and Charging system experience

  • Must have a good understanding of power semiconductor module technologies used in EV applications and working experience with major power module manufacturers

  • Experience with performance analysis, testing, and validating, power conversion modules

  • Experience with testing, validating, and calibration of electric machines

  • Extensive Experience with power electronics component analysis, testing and de-rating strategies

  • Extensive experience and expertise in thermal modeling, simulations, analysis and thermal management of Power Electronics components and systems

  • Thorough understanding of power electronics components/systems development process from concept through launch

  • Highly rated for leadership and teamwork

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong interest in the automotive industry and electrified powertrain systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, preferably in Power Electronics major

  • Experience with Control of Induction and Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines

  • Knowledge in Induction and Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines performance evaluations

  • Knowledge in low power electronics, analog/digital circuit design, FPGA, Microprocessor technologies

  • Knowledge in V2V, V2L and V2G technologies

  • Knowledge in DFEMA and DFFS methodologies

  • Ability to travel 10-15% internationally

The candidate selected for this position will be responsible for the thermal aspects of the mechanical development of motor cooling and IPC compliant circuit card assembly cooling. The candidate will receive design inputs including motor designs, performance requirements, electrical schematics, packaging envelopes and operating environments. Using these design inputs, the candidate will work to generate a cooling strategy and system including radiators, pumps, and oil splash cooling. This position will interface with cross-functional teams at Nexteer including MCAD, ECAD, electrical circuit design, motors, systems, manufacturing and purchasing. MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: * Evaluation of a range of electric motors based on their thermal characteristics by utilizing analytical tools as well as Finite Element Analysis and propose solutions to improve thermal performance. * Develop thermal models to predict the temperature rise within electric motors and CCAs along with conducting validation tests. * Research for new state of the art materials and suggest thermal counter measures to reduce cost and improve the mechanical design of electric assist mechanism. * Develop a comprehensive library of thermal impedances and resistances by altering the key parameters of electric motors for future design of experiments (DOEs). * Determine the key parameters of a thermal models through analytical design and analysis along with testing in the lab. * Write protocols of procedure for thermal testing of electric motors and CCAs. * Articulate, communicate and publish the significant benchmarks for internal publications. * Design parts for future systems, correct deficiencies, suggest improvements and validate the design both theoretically and experimentally. * Provide design directions to CAD personnel and develop solutions to existing problems along with conduct optimization studies to achieve cost controls. * Coordinate with vendors and/or customers to devise alternative solutions for thermal performance while maintaining and/or reducing the cost of the product. * Design optimal thermal solutions and drive the design from concept to production verification. * Derive requirements and specifications for the thermal systems and components * Drive thermal systems design including airflow management, coolant flow management, and thermal system integration. * Create test plans and guide the thermal testing that provides accurate insight into the system QUALIFICATIONS: DEGREE: Bachelors required.
