Job Description

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan three times per week, at minimum.

The Role

We are currently seeking experienced and motivated candidates for the role of Power Electronics and High Voltage System Modeling Engineer to support our Global Virtual Engineering (GVE) within our Global Electrification and Battery Systems (GEBS) department. In this role, you will be responsible to develop and execute physics-based one-dimensional electrical models for various power electronics components like Inverters, Onboard Charging Module, Accessory Power Module, and other power conversion units, fuses, cables, connectors, and contactors. You will closely interact with other team members and work cross functionally to develop and release new models, integrate them with other models and correlate them with test data. You will also be required to work closely with component suppliers to develop the models and/or modify existing models to work with General Motors' internal tools. A balance of technical and project leadership skills and the ability to think creatively is paramount.

What You'll Do

  • Develop, validate, and release power electronics models using tools like Saber, Simplorer, MATLAB, Simulink and Simscape.

  • Work collaboratively with Design Release Engineers, Component Technical Specialists, Electrical Architects, and Component Suppliers to develop and update power electronics models.

  • Work with virtual test teams to meet model requirements for test cases, update models and support debugging/issues.

  • Collaborate with other teams to integrate with higher fidelity models and/or model packages.

  • Ensure on time delivery of high-quality models and analysis results.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with concentration in power electronics

  • 5 years of research or work experience

  • Fluency in using commercial tools for modeling and simulation of power electronics like Saber, Simplorer, MATLAB, Simulink and Simscape

  • Extensive knowledge in power electronics theory, principles, and control techniques.

  • Extensive knowledge in design, development, controls and testing of power electronic components.

  • Experience with power electronics controls and software.

  • Experience in design and modeling for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) in power electronics modules

  • Understanding of electrified vehicle system and integration

  • High level of technical problem-solving skills

  • High level of project management skills and the ability to influence those that are not direct reports.

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work cross functionally with multiple teams to drive work forward.

  • Ability to work non-standard hours to collaborate with an analysis support team overseas.
