Summary

Our client is seeking a part-time Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator and Power BI Data Visualization Specialist. The consultant will work under the IT Service Manager, have hands-on responsibilities, and support several project teams within information technology and business departments. As the principal liaison between business divisions and the information technology department, the consultant is responsible for understanding all parts of the on-premises Operational Data Store (ODS) data model, the ETL processing from source systems, and various reporting use cases where Power BI is deployed within the environment. The consultant is also responsible for mentoring, coaching, and sharing best practices across all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for database design and object development.

  • Reverse engineer database schemas for data model visualization.

  • Design and examine data replication for full copy and incremental updates from legacy source systems into the Operational Data Store (ODS).

  • Analyze, create, and maintain complex SQL queries for on-premises data delivery to Azure Power BI tenant.

  • Build and maintain Power BI data models, reports, and dashboards.

  • Support and maintain source to target data maps for the Operational Data Store (ODS).

  • Perform change and release management into production environments, SQL Server, and Power BI.

  • Support technology upgrades.

  • Perform SQL Server database installation, upgrades, patching, and service packs.

  • Optimize index and query plans during performance and tuning exercises.

  • Analyze role and permission configuration in SQL Server and Power BI environments, recommend changes.

  • Support and monitor the Azure Power BI data lake environment.

  • Develop and maintain backup schedules with recovery service levels for SQL Server and Power BI environments.

  • Perform capacity management for on-premises data storage and Azure data lake.

  • Develop standards and communicate best practices for SQL Server and Power BI environments.

  • Perform data quality analysis from source systems and present master/reference data concerns.

  • Collaborate with and train business teams holding Power BI responsibilities.

  • Hold scheduled business-centric Power BI tutorial sessions for real-time development of BI models, reports, and visualization dashboards. Communicate clearly and concisely in business and technical terms.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator, with proficiency in database design and administration.

  • Strong understanding of relational database concepts, data warehousing principles, and SQL querying.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, including report development and data modeling.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Microsoft SQL Server/Power BI certification(s).
