Associate Principal-Athletic Director
BASIC DUTIES

Assists the Principal in managing and administering school programs, including supervision of certificated and classified employees, student discipline, attendance monitoring, and managing specific school programs as assigned. Supervise classroom instruction and evaluates teaching performance for assigned curriculum area. Assisting in creating a total school atmosphere conducive to optimum student progress. Participates in the ongoing development and evaluation of the District's educational program. The Athletic Director assignment would be under the general supervision of the site administrator. The goal and responsibility of the Athletic Director is to assist the administration in the organization and operation of the athletic programs at the school.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Associate Principal
1.Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school.
2.Serves as a principal in the absence of the regular principal.
3.Administers and maintains discipline throughout the student body.
4.Implements the District-approved program of instruction by:
a. Assisting in creating a total school atmosphere conducive to optimum student progress.
b. Participating in the ongoing development and evaluation of the District's educational program.
c. Assists in implementing effective guidance and health services for all students.
d. Assists in interpreting data for program improvement.
5.Responsible for personnel management functions of the school by:
a. Assists in making recommendations regarding the selection of school personnel.
b. Assists in interviewing prospective teachers for assigned curriculum area.
c. Supervise classroom instruction and evaluates teaching performance for assigned curriculum area. d. Supervise classified staff.
e. Evaluates achievement and placement of students in assigned curriculum area.
f. Coordinates Summer School program as needed.
g. Serves as member of the textbook selection committee for assigned area.
h. Assists in developing effective lines of communication and staff input in educational planning.
i. Prepares budget in assigned curriculum areas as directed by the principal.
6.Participate in student study teams, 504 planning, and IEP process as needed.
7.Monitors the academic achievement of students and makes recommendations for interventions or alternative placements.
8.Responsible for general administrative functions such as maintaining accurate records and preparing reports.
9.Responsible for assisting with school plant management functions as assigned by assuming responsibility for a healthful environment and safe school facilities.
10. Assists with the management and implementation of computerized attendance, data management, scheduling and grading system.
11. Participate in the development of policies as a member of the administrative team and interpret school and District programs, policies, and procedures to students, staff, parents and community.
12. Assists in safety inspections and safety drill practice activities/safety plan preparation.
13. Assisting in the development and maintenance of productive community relations.
14. Assumes a leadership role in change and revitalization projects.
15. Actively pursue professional growth activities for staff under their supervision.
16. Supervises campus, athletic events, and activities as assigned.
17. Participates in coordination of Site testing.
18. Assists with graduation activities and ceremonies.
19. Performs other duties as assigned necessary for the effective operation of the District and the school.
20. Supervise after-school program. (Elementary only)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Athletic Director

  • Coordinate and prepare the annual athletic budget.

  • Evaluate coaching personnel and athletic programs on an annual basis.

  • Recommend coaching assignments to the Principal.

  • Coordinate officiating with official's coordinator for each sport.

  • Coordinate and direct athletic award ceremonies.

  • Represent the school at meetings and attend site management meetings.

  • Act as Title IX advisor and coordinator.

  • Annually ensure appropriate certification of all coaches - establish first aid and CPR training as needed.

  • Interpret and monitor adherence to all required policies.

  • Coordinate signing of LEAGUE copies of section policies to coaches and teams.

  • School liaison with athletic fund-raising activities, update Boosters on facilities, and communicate the status of teams.

  • Represents the athletic program at community functions and other group meetings.

  • Coordinate with head coaches, custodians, maintenance department and administration on athletic facilities needs for
    ongoing maintenance/repair and setup for games/contests.

  • Arranges for cleaning and other proper maintenance of all athletic equipment.

  • Coordinate all athletic events and schedules: prepare and distribute schedules regarding contests, transportation and
    use of facilities.

  • Coordinate annual inventories of athletic equipment in all sports.

  • Coordinate academic grade checks/debt list for athletic eligibility and establish initial eligibility for each season as well
    as eligibility dates. Communicate with parents procedures and processes for athletic sign-ups. Follow up on athletic
    physical paperwork.

  • Coordinate insurance requirements for all athletes.

  • Secure medical personnel for events as required.

  • Provide information to staff, parents, and community on matters of
    athletic policy and procedures.

  • Assume responsibility for access to facilities, i.e., distribution and collection of keys to coaches.

  • Serves in a general advisory capacity to the Principal on all matters related to athletics.

  • Supervision at athletic events; and

  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the site principal.

  • Secure security for Athletic events as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS: ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL-ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
Knowledge of:

  • Curriculum and Instruction

  • Instructional materials and methods

  • Evaluation procedures

  • Clinical teaching and supervision

  • Resource management

  • Laws relating to site level management.

  • Computer programs and operation

  • GRCSU policies

  • Athletics

  • Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.

  • Basic techniques and strategies concerning supervision, motivation, and performance evaluation.

REQUIRED

  • Valid VT Driver's License

  • Current first aid/CPR certificates

  • Current TB

  • Completion of coaching class

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum three years of teaching experience and three (3) years of athletic coaching experience, preferably at the secondary level.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree
Valid Vermont Administrative Credential and teaching credential.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Confidential Certificated Management/Salary Schedule (A) 225 Workdays
