Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Biomedical Engineering / Cardiovascular Device Development / Machine Learning
A postdoctoral research fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Aaron Aguirre at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). The laboratory (https://csb.mgh.harvard.edu/aaron_aguirre) applies expertise from medicine, engineering, and biology to investigate cardiovascular disease and to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic technologies.
The lab is a part of the Wellman Center for Photomedicine and the Center for Systems Biology at MGH. A research fellow is being recruited to lead projects on the development of novel diagnostics and devices to treat decompensated heart failure, cardiac arrest, and circulatory shock. The individual will work with physician investigators in design, prototyping, and experimental validation.
We seek motivated and creative individuals with a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree in engineering or physics and an interest in studying cardiovascular diseases. Expertise in one or more of the following areas would be helpful but is not required: cardiovascular physiology and imaging (ultrasound, optical), biomedical image / signal processing, mechanical design and prototyping (CAD, SolidWorks, 3D printing), data acquisition and analysis (Labview, PowerLab, Matlab), machine learning and data analytics (Python). Hands-on experimental work and prototyping as well as work with animal models may be required.
The candidate should have good written and oral communication skills and enjoy working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The principal investigator places a high priority on mentoring and career development for lab members and the lab offers great preparation for careers in academia, the healthcare industry, or clinical medicine.
The laboratory is based on the main hospital campus of MGH. MGH is home to the largest hospital-based research program in the United States and is a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School. MGH is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
Interested candidates should send a resume or CV, a brief paragraph description of background and interests, and contact information for two references to Aaron Aguirre, MD, PhD, at aaguirre1@mgh.harvard.edu.
