Position Details:
Summary of Duties:
Post-doctoral fellow will perform independent research in accordance with available funding in Dr. Letko's lab:
Screen and characterize currently circulating coronaviruses for zoonotic properties including cell entry and evasion of adaptive immune responses
Work with machine-learning model experts to extrapolate larger trends from laboratory data.
Work with structural and therapeutic development experts to model crucial viral-host interfaces, optimize vaccine antigens and test antiviral interventions Critical technical skills mammalian cell culture transfections transductions molecular cloning strategy design western blot PCR sequence analysis nucleic acid extraction and purification experience with GraphPad Prism troubleshooting
Required Qualifications:
A recent Ph.D. in biomedical science, biology, virology, microbiology, or a closely related field with a focus on molecular virology
Hands-on experience with molecular cloning, cell culture and viruses
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a proven track record of publishing scientific results.
Capable of conducting independent research and managing a project from conception through to execution.
Strong attention to detail with a critical thinking approach to problem-solving and research development.
Ability to work with and contribute to diverse teams and promote an inclusive working culture
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong foundation in virology, particularly in studying virus-host interactions and zoonotic diseases.
experience in molecular virology, including viral replication assays, cloning, reverse genetics, structural analysis
Advanced skills in cloning strategy and construct design, mammalian cell culture and structural analysis software including Chimera or PyMol
Proven track record of effective collaboration within interdisciplinary teams, including working with ecologists, structural biologists and vaccine researchers.
Experience in overseeing research projects and mentorship of junior researchers.
Strong data analysis, writing and presenting skills

Annual Salary: $60,000 - $70,000
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

This is a temporary position expected to end on August 31, 2025. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
