Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and creative PhD level post-doctoral candidate to explore early stage research on the role of complement activation and vascular inflammation in sickle cell disease. The successful candidate will provide scientific leadership and play a pivotal role in advancing the understanding of complement and inflammation in the pathology of sickle cell anemia and other hematological disorders utilizing available mouse models in vivo and human donor samples to develop and explore in vitro models. The candidate will benefit from collaboration with other scientists in Sanofi Rare Blood Disorders research group, but will assume responsibility to complete leading edge research for presentation in major scientific meetings and publication in high impact journals. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of complement biology, hematology and vascular inflammation with a commitment to understanding the pathology of sickle cell disease.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead research efforts in Sanofi Rare Blood Disorders to execute leading edge research to understand the role of complement activation and vascular inflammation in sickle cell disease.

  • Characterize global and selective blockade of complement components to decrease complement activation in sickle cell mice using genetic knock-outs and inhibitory antibodies.

  • Design and execute experiments to further understand the role of complement activation and inflammation in vascular occlusion and organ pathology.

  • Explore the interactions between vascular adhesion molecules and components of the complement cascade and their contribution to sickle cell pathology.

  • Develop assays to characterize pathways leading to complement deposition on circulating red blood cells and subsequent hemolysis.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of current experimental techniques and literature in the field of complement, vascular inflammation and hemoglobinopathies.

  • Share and present scientific results to our multi-disciplinary research group and at external meetings or conferences.

  • Complete leading edge research and author scientific manuscripts for publication in high impact journals.

  • Work well with colleagues in a matrixed, fast-paced pharmaceutical research environment.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Immunology, Hematology, Vascular Biology or relevant biological science

  • Must have US work authorization

  • Relevant expertise in in vivo and ex vivo pharmacology, hematology and cellular immunology

  • Working knowledge of complement, the immune system and sickle cell disease

  • Experienced and comfortable handling small animals and models of transgenic mouse pathology

  • Experienced in tissue culture, cell based assays, flow cytometry and ex vivo assays

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possesses an understanding of research in red blood cell pathology, hemolytic anemias or hemoglobinopathies

  • Keeps up-to-date on relevant literature and applies knowledge to current issues in complement, inflammation and hematology

  • Post-doctoral experience in a related field

  • Effectively communicates and collaborates in a multi-disciplinary team environment

  • Can work independently and proactively; is a self-starter and results-driven

  • Has a track record of completing independent research and publishing and presenting result

The company will focus on advancing pipeline and commercial programs to address areas of unmet medical need in hemophilia and other blood disorders, where Sanofi Bioverativ plans to bring an enhanced focus on developing treatments for this underserved patient population. This position is responsible for directing multiple innovative global regulatory strategies for product development and approval and commercial support. Responsible for defining strategies for meeting and while post approval compliance. Responsible for regulatory documents, submissions, and compliance issues. Represent the company with domestic and international regulatory authorities, contractors and corporate partners. Provide regulatory guidance for various corporate wide teams/committees. Essential Functions: * Develops the global regulatory strategy for assigned programs through collaboration with a cross functional team * Advises project teams regarding the development and implementation of regulatory strategy. Maintains awareness of the changing regulatory landscape and advises team on changes that could impact future development. * Develops innovative life cycle management plans to achieve business objectives * Direct the organization and preparation of clear and effective submissions. * Establishes and maintains relationships with regulatory agency personnel.
