The Center for Hierarchical Materials Design at Fayetteville State University invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellow position to begin on December 1, 2016. We seek an outstanding and highly motivated researcher to develop a continuum model of solid materials fracturing, conduct computer simulations of mechanical behavior of materials in conditions of cyclic loading, analyze mechanical properties of materials, and visualize the materials structure.

The researcher will have the opportunity to work in collaboration with Dr. A. Umantsev and his interdisciplinary group. This is a 6 months position with a possibility of extension for two more years.

Salary is commensurate with the experience. Starting salary is expected to be in the range $30-40K/year. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in Materials Science and experience in computer simulations and multi-scale modeling of materials processes. a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in Materials Science and experience in computer simulations and multi-scale modeling of materials processes.

The employee will report to Professor Jun Xu and will be a senior member of Professor Jun Xus research group, supporting projects through original research, collaboration with other team members, and mentoring of students. The employee will also contribute to additional proposal efforts, thereby strengthening UNC Charlottes ability to attract external funding. The employees principal research responsibilities will be developing multiphysics modeling of lithium-ion batteries for safety behaviors. The employee will confer with Professor Jun Xu on overall research direction and strategy but will exercise a considerable amount of independent judgment and original thinking in carrying out research that contributes to original knowledge and advances the Universitys reputation in research. The employee will publish research results, in collaboration with Professor Jun Xu, in recognized journals. The employee will share student mentoring with Professor Jun Xu and will participate in departmental seminars and other professional activities as assigned.
