The successful applicant will lead and execute research projects devoted to enhancing repair of the central nervous system with a focus on spinal injury. This will involve experimental procedures including animal surgeries, histology, and leading-edge molecular analyses in addition to supervising technical staff and students working in support of the project. The successful applicant will also analyze data, present findings at research conferences, and prepare manuscripts to disseminate findings.

Duties and Responsibilities

1.Design and execute experiments that explore molecular interventions to improve axon repair after spinal injury.

2.Train and supervise research staff and students that are working in support of this individual's project.

3.Analyze experimental data.

4.Prepare research presentations and peer-reviewed manuscripts to disseminate findings.

5.Continued reading of the literature to stay current on the latest research developments and participate in ongoing discussions to optimize future research directions.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Doctoral degree in Neuroscience, Biomedical Science

Must have experience with at least one of the following: molecular biology (e.g. RNA-Seq, Single Cell Seq), small animal surgeries, or rodent behavioral testing. Training will be provided for any missing competencies.

Prior participation in the preparation of scientific manuscripts is required.

Prior experience with statistical analysis and data management is required.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Preferred wet lab competencies include NGS library prep (RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, qPCR, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and fluorescence activated cell sorting).

Preferred animal surgery competencies include targeted brain or spinal injections and controlled spinal injuries.

Preferred data analysis competencies include image analysis, skills in R or Python, and algorithms relevant to NGS workflows (e.g. Seurat).

Experience supervising student researchers.

Experience in research compliance in an academic setting (e.g. IACUC protocol maintenance).
