Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients.

The Madala Lab in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to study fibrotic lung diseases using advanced biochemical methods and pre-clinical animal models.

The research themes of the Madala lab are to understand novel mechanisms and druggable molecules involved in fibroblast activation, and fibrosis. The laboratory has identified several growth factors, cytokines, and transcription factors involved in fibrotic lung diseases.

Essential Functions

  • Use pre-clinical animal models and perform a variety of general techniques related to human sample preparation (fibroblasts and other lung cells), protein biochemistry, and molecular biology (plasmid and RNA isolation).

  • Participate actively in developing and maintaining the details of new experimental procedures and protocols.

  • Initiate and complete research studies.

  • Participate in laboratory and scientific meetings such as annual meetings of American Thoracic Society.

  • Write manuscripts and develop personal career development plans.

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD degree in biochemistry or related field.

  • Academic research background in animal breeding and a wide range of molecular and cellular biology techniques, including characterization of protein-protein interactions using tissue culture, IP western, and siRNA methods.

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
