Sandia has an opportunity for a well-qualified postdoctoral candidate to develop algorithms and methodologies for applying machine learning techniques to problems pertaining to data generated by the scientific enterprise. The ideal candidate will have experience with the application, development and analysis of machine learning techniques
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Perform research in a collaborative environment to deliver innovative solutions at the forefront of computational science and machine learning.
Author academic publications and present at technical meetings.
Some travel will be required.
Qualifications We Require
Ph.D. in mathematics, computer science, engineering, or a related area received within the last 5 years prior to employment
Evidence of relevant and exceptional research achievements as demonstrated in the form of technical publications, presentations, software tools, and/or knowledge of applications
Experience with PDE constrained optimization, including PDE discretizations, numerical optimization algorithm development and application
Knowledge of numerical methods development, analysis techniques, and high-performance computing
Qualifications We Desire
Ability to work in a collaborative research environment on problems comprising diverse application domains
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience with the application and analysis of machine learning approaches,
Background and expertise in large-scale scientific computation
Strong software development skills and experience utilizing software libraries for scientific software development
About Our Team
The Computational Mathematics Department (01442) conducts research in computational and applied mathematics motivated by science and engineering applications of interest to Sandia National Laboratories and the U.S. Department of Energy. Members of the department interact and collaborate with a broad range of Sandia and DOE staff and also maintain a research presence in the external professional community by collaborating with universities and industry, publishing peer-reviewed literature, participating in professional societies, and refereeing and editing for journals.

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted security clearance.
Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to the work site. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment.
