The Post-Secondary Coordinator is responsible for coordination and implementation of strategies that prepare Ombudsman Chicago students for post-secondary opportunities. Chief among the responsibilities is to ensure the team of counselors is providing direct service to targeted high school students using a set of curricular and enrichment strategies delivered through the domains of awareness, readiness, access and success to promote long-term preparation for post-secondary transition and to ensure the same is happening in each of the four Ombudsman Chicago schools.
Increase access to college and career options for students through instruction, programming and partnerships
Develop implementation plans with each campus aligned to the district's measures of accountability
Collaborate with higher education officials to build partnerships that support matriculation
Conduct ongoing college access workshops for all grade levels that advises students about college and career opportunities along with each school's counselors
Conduct monthly workshops along with each school's counselors that informs and prepares students in 9-12 for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Coordinate job shadow, career speaker and career service events that promote college and career preparation.
Promote and support the recruitment and participation of students in Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment opportunities
Support the recruitment of students for Career and Technical Education (CTE) for citywide CTE academies, ChiCat, and others
Recruit, along with school's counselors, students for CTE internships and support employment opportunities
Coordinate with CTE teachers and counselors to ensure that students complete soft-skills requirements necessary to meeting work ready criteria
Organize and conduct college tours for 9-12 grade levels
Conduct workshops that focus on ACT/SAT test preparation for students
Conduct workshops that focus on writing, time management and study skills
Participate in scheduled planning sessions to develop key tools and strategies that promote the departments work with each school's counselors
Organize college and career fairs and parent university along with the school's counselors
Track all PSC initiatives and student participation for all four schools
Meet with students who are in programs to motivate, encourage, and identify and remove barriers
Be present in each building one day a week
