Position Summary:

The Post-Secondary Coordinator is responsible for coordination and implementation of strategies that prepare Ombudsman Chicago students for post-secondary opportunities. Chief among the responsibilities is to ensure the team of counselors is providing direct service to targeted high school students using a set of curricular and enrichment strategies delivered through the domains of awareness, readiness, access and success to promote long-term preparation for post-secondary transition and to ensure the same is happening in each of the four Ombudsman Chicago schools.

Position Details:

  • Increase access to college and career options for students through instruction, programming and partnerships

  • Develop implementation plans with each campus aligned to the district's measures of accountability

  • Collaborate with higher education officials to build partnerships that support matriculation

  • Conduct ongoing college access workshops for all grade levels that advises students about college and career opportunities along with each school's counselors

  • Conduct monthly workshops along with each school's counselors that informs and prepares students in 9-12 for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  • Coordinate job shadow, career speaker and career service events that promote college and career preparation.

  • Promote and support the recruitment and participation of students in Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment opportunities

  • Support the recruitment of students for Career and Technical Education (CTE) for citywide CTE academies, ChiCat, and others

  • Recruit, along with school's counselors, students for CTE internships and support employment opportunities

  • Coordinate with CTE teachers and counselors to ensure that students complete soft-skills requirements necessary to meeting work ready criteria

  • Organize and conduct college tours for 9-12 grade levels

  • Conduct workshops that focus on ACT/SAT test preparation for students

  • Conduct workshops that focus on writing, time management and study skills

  • Participate in scheduled planning sessions to develop key tools and strategies that promote the departments work with each school's counselors

  • Organize college and career fairs and parent university along with the school's counselors

  • Track all PSC initiatives and student participation for all four schools

  • Meet with students who are in programs to motivate, encourage, and identify and remove barriers

  • Be present in each building one day a week

VIEW JOBS 8/28/2021 12:00:00 AM 2021-11-26T00:00 Position Summary The Post-Secondary Counselor has three primary job functions: 1) research and develop relationships with a broad range of post-secondary institutions, focusing specifically on arts-oriented programs; 2) work with students to develop their post-secondary plan and help them find the best possible fit; 3) coordinate with advisory teachers, department heads and other staff as necessary to help organize and effective post-secondary strategy for our students. This position reports to the principal. Responsibilities * Offer instructions and supervision in the development of post-secondary, program curricula * Attend national conferences and collaborate with the department heads of arts conservatories to maintain proficiency on the happenings in this field. * Invite programs to ChiArts and help coordinate college visits * Maintain a folder on each student and current records of post-secondary institutions * Offer seminars and workshops on the admissions process to parents * Offer training and support to advisors on career and post-secondary program implementations * Oversee PSAT, ACT, and SAT testing * Use test data and career inventories to help identify strong areas of interest and potential post-secondary paths for students * Help students understand the admissions process through providing education on costs, scholarships and methods to search for schools * Supervise a field experiences and internships * Help students with the physical application process and collaborate with arts conservatories to develop artistic materials (i.e. portfolios, resumes, audio and visual recordings, etc.) as needed. * Develop a broader knowledge base of information about arts related careers and post-secondary programs * Assist in developing a follow-up program and facilitating alumni relations. Qualifications * Masters degree in school counseling, another counseling or related field (e.g. social work or psychology), or an educational field * Completed an Illinois program approved for the preparation of school counselors or a comparable, approved program in another state or country or hold a comparable certificate issued by another state or country. * Completed a supervised counseling practicum of at least 100 clock hours that provided interaction with individuals and groups of school age and included at least 40 hours of direct service work. * 2-3 years of experience in High School counseling/advising preferred * An intimate understanding of the application process and a broad knowledge base of information about arts related careers and arts colleges, universities and training programs * Demonstrated ability to interact with parents, students, faculty, college recruiters and artists.
