The Filippakis Laboratory, at the University of New England, is looking for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow. The lab is located on the Biddeford campus and investigates mechanisms underlying aberrant metabolic processes in mTOR-driven tumors, with attention to therapeutic and diagnostic applications. Projects in basic science and translational research are available.

The laboratory seeks creative and passionate team players, with a strong desire to impact human health. Motivated candidates will have recently completed graduate studies in a PhD or MD/PhD program with a strong background in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology. Candidates with experience in molecular biology, metabolism, and cell signaling are encouraged to apply. Proven technical skills in molecular biology, cell culture, signal transduction, gene and protein expression, and murine models are required.

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, this position will independently carry out and design highly sophisticated and independent experiments. The candidate will work in a laboratory space dedicated to the Principal Investigator with additional potential to establish successful project-specific collaborations in a variety of directions. The laboratory is located in the Biddeford campus and is part of the newly NIH-funded COBRE Center for Cell Signaling Research (CCSR). The collaborative research environment at UNE COM coupled with the highly innovative research centers on campus contribute to an active training environment that nurtures career development.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conducts experiments; maintains detailed records of experiments and outcomes.

  • Reviews literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with advances in the field.

  • Contributes to preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and proposals.

  • Laboratory practice that is strictly compliant with safety protocols.

  • Must be able to work and communicate effectively with faculty, research assistants, administrative assistants, students, and other personnel.

  • Completes University new employee orientation and sexual harassment training within 30 days of date of hire.

  • Understands and complies with the university of New England Safety Manual.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Successfully completed PhD or MD/PhD program with strong background in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology

  • Proven technical skills in molecular biology, cell culture, signal transduction, gene and protein expression, and murine models

  • Must possess excellent organization, interpersonal, problem-solving and communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks an manage time appropriately. The candidate will work both independently and as part of a team and should be a self-starter with the ability to manage multiple activities, while conducting individual research and disseminating results.

  • Experience in statistically analyzing and interpreting research data using appropriate methodologies/software

  • Must be able to work and communicate effectively with faculty, research assistants/associates, administrative assistants, and other personnel.

  • Excellent time management/organizational skills.

  • Strong written and verbal presentation skills.

  • Strong research design and analytical skills.

  • Strong database of statistical skills.
