Sasha H. Shafikhani, PhD, is seeking a seeking a high performing and self-motivated post-doctoral fellow to join their research team in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology, Oncology and Cell Therapy.
NIH-funded Post-Doctoral Research Scientist to work on the interplay between Pseudomonas aeruginosa and host in the context of wound infection
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Investigate why diabetic wounds fail to control P. aeruginosa infection.
Investigate host responses to control P. aeruginosa infection.
Responsible for planning and directing experiments related to cell biology, biochemistry and immunology research. This includes the planning and execution of an assigned project; identifying and executing an original research project.
Identifies an original research project, experiments, and potential research directions related to research activities; collects, evaluates, interprets and provides documentation of research data to accomplish research objectives.
Provides own data collection, preparation of manuscripts, and research papers for presentation and/or publications.
Maintains a safe laboratory environment and ensures compliance with governmental and University policies, procedures, rules and regulations
Responsible for animal handling and for working with animal tissues.
Performs other job related assignments as needed.
The successful candidate may also be required to supervise Research employees and/or nonexempt staff.
Position Qualifications Include:
Ph.D. or MD. in sciences or equivalent required.
Must have 0-3 years post doc experience required with cell culture, molecular biology techniques and animal handling.
Strong communication, data analysis, computer and organizational skills are highly desirable.
Prior experience is required with some of the following techniques: high-throughput screening, mammalian cell culture, cell transfection assays, flow cytometry (FACS).
Candidates must be enthusiastic, self-motivated, efficient and interact well with others as part of a team.
Expertise in working with relevant experimental models of disease is a must.
Expertise with confocal imaging techniques and with high-content screening platforms will be a big plus.
Must be able to work at a high level of independence.
Good general health, manual dexterity and visual acuity; articulate with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Possess the ability to organize and perform laboratory work on several concurrent research projects
