The UGA Healthy Marriage and Relationship Education (HMRE) Post-Doctoral Research Associate works under the supervision of Dr. Ted Futris, Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Science, Director of the Couples and Relationship Enrichment (CARE) Laboratory, and Principal Investigator/Project Director for the Family, Relationship, and Marriage Education Works (FRAMEWorks) grant-funded project.

The CARE Lab is housed in the Department of Human Development and Family Science which provides leadership in the field via cutting edge research, pedagogy, and service. We are an interdisciplinary program focusing on individual, relationship, and family development within diverse ecological contexts. Faculty research interests include infancy and childhood, adolescence and young adulthood, adult development and aging, parenting and caregiving, interpersonal relationships, health and biobehavioral processes, and contexts of human development.

We have a vibrant program with over 481 undergraduate majors, 48 graduate students, and 20 faculty operating in a collegial and supportive environment. Faculty in the department collaborate with numerous programs and institutions across campus including the Owens Institute for Behavioral Research, Center for Family Research, Bio-Imaging Research Center, Institute on Human Development and Disability, Institute of Gerontology, McPhaul Child Development Center, and UGA Cooperative Extension.

The FRAMEWorks project is integrating HMRE into existing services to improve healthy relationship and marriage skills of committed couples across Georgia who are experiencing economic stress and are relationally vulnerable in order to enhance couple functioning, co-parenting and parenting quality, family stability, and adult and child well-being. The Post-Doctoral Research Associate demonstrates an advanced knowledge of the program and is responsible for engaging in scholarly and creative research and evaluation. This includes managing and analyzing large datasets, collaboration with mentor and other faculty and staff involved on the project, being a major contributor on publications, creating evaluation reports, and assisting with the other research objectives of the project and the CARE lab as determined by the supervisor/mentor.

This position is a classified position funded by a grant from the Administration for Children and Families, Office of Family Assistance (OFA) through the University of Georgia (UGA), College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Continued funding for this position, after the end of the grant period, is contingent on obtaining other funding sources.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position

Preference will be given to candidates with expertise or experience in the following areas: 1) relationship or family science in context, broadly defined, 2) advanced quantitative methods and analysis (e.g., dyadic analysis, longitudinal analysis, multilevel modeling), and 3) project management and team leadership. Familiarity with the Healthy Marriage and Responsible Fatherhood grant program is preferred.

Preferred Advanced Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and/or Competencies:

o Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

o Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

o Advanced data management skills and experience with common statistical programs (e.g., SPSS, MPlus, R).

o Ability to conduct dyadic data analysis including, but not limited to, longitudinal data analysis, structural equation modeling, and multilevel modeling.

o Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

o Have exceptional organization skills.

o Demonstrate professional behavior.

o Exhibits a high level of initiative.

o Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

o Ability to plan and implement required project responsibilities.

o Available to travel and participate in overnight, out-of-town meetings and conferences.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

A Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Science, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or related discipline at the time employment begins. Doctoral candidates who anticipate graduation in August 2024 are also eligible to apply but will complete all degree requirements prior to beginning employment.

The Candidate will:

o Adhere to ethical standards, which, prior to assuming duties, includes a background investigation.

o Comply with good laboratory practices and recognized university standards, and timely completion of UGA required lab safety training programs.

o Open and timely discussion with the mentor regarding research progress, distribution of reagents or materials, or any disclosure of findings or techniques privately or in publications.

o Actively participate in training and assessment activities.

o Publication of research or scholarship during the period of the appointment, in consultation with his or her mentor.

o Collegial conduct toward coworkers.

o Comply with all sponsor, UGA, and USG policies and procedures, including observation of established guidelines for research involving biohazards, human subjects, or animals.
