Position:Portuguese Interpreter/Translator
Location:Family Resource Center/District-wide
Schedule: 2024-2025 School Year (Ten-month position/182 days)
Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week (7:45 AM-3:15 PM)
Salary:$23.50 per hour

Description:
The Milford Public Schools is hiring a highly skilled, organized, and motivated individual to provide interpretation and translation services across the district. The successful candidate will have prior experience as an interpreter and translator and be able to perform in diverse, advanced, and confidential situations.

Qualifications
●Native/Fluent level language skills: bilingual and biliteracy communication skills in English and Portuguese, required;
●Three to five years previous interpretation and translation work-related experience, preferred;
●Translation Certificate, such as American Translators Association Certificate, preferred;
●DESE Tier 1: Language Ambassador Certificate, required;
●DESE Tier 2 and 3: Qualified Interpreter, preferred;
●Highly organized and extremely detail-oriented;
●Excellent computer skills, including X2, Microsoft Word, Google Suite: Docs, Excel, Slides, etc;
●Ability to maintain complete confidentiality and discretion in dealing with classified information;
●Ability to use tact, diplomacy, and judgment when working with a variety of constituencies;
●Positive attitude and a willingness to help others;
●Strong problem-solving skills;
●Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team;
●Flexible and able to change priorities quickly; and
●Flexible weekly working hours, with availability for some evening events.

Roles and Responsibilities:
●Provide all components of secretarial support to the interpretation and translation department;
●Prepare, transmit, receive, interpreted and translated correspondence for principals and departments;
●Track, receive, translate, and distribute paperwork;
●Work with the Interpretation and Translation Coordinator to maintain translated documents and records;
●Receive and make phone calls to families whose home language is not English;
●Respond to staff and parent inquiries seeking interpretation and translation via email and phone calls;
●Coordinate and schedule meetings and appointments where interpretation is needed;
●Collaborate with school and department administration;
●Assist Milford Public Schools (MPS) in bridging the language and cultural gap between parents and school system;
●Interpret for Special Education and 504 Team meetings, and
●Interpret for additional meetings as needed (i.e. disciplinary hearings, medical transitions, EL Student Success Plans, MTSS, nursing department, parent conferences, etc.).
