This position manages and services a portfolio of existing commercial loans and business member relationships. Provides analytical, credit oversight, assessing risk and ensures the commercial loan portfolio performance and quality remain strong in conformance with established Credit Union policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  • Partners with Commercial Lending Officers and/or Senior Lending Officer to understand specific Member requirements and needs and collects appropriate financial information required to perform an accurate risk assessment or underwriting and evaluates customer financial information to determine credit worthiness. Coordinates applications, appraisal/ environmental, loan closing etc.
  • Contributes to a positive work environment and SMCU image by maintaining courteous, respectful and effective interaction, teamwork and communication with employees and members to enhance positive behaviors and employee satisfaction.
  • Consults with Octant to provide quality risk assessments and deliver info in a consistent manner.
  • Ensures loan agreement is in accordance with approval documents; takes necessary steps to address any potential issues.
  • Corresponds with applicant to resolve questions regarding application information and monitors and follows up on all missing loan documentation per the individual lender tickler reports.
  • Works closely with Credit Union attorneys, requesting and upon receipt ensuring that loan documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Prepares entire write-ups or works with Octant to initiate loan write-ups and assures timely loan closing and funding activities.
  • Serves as back-up support to the Commercial Lending Officers and will have necessary Member interaction as needed.
  • Supports sales effort by identifying and researching cross sell opportunities
  • Monitors and manages existing loan portfolio through the requesting and review of updated financial statements, credit reports and other related financial data
  • Identifies and responds to issues (e.g. past due accounts) to limit risk and loss to the Credit Union by making and developing recommendations through collaboration with others on appropriate strategies and actions.
  • Works with Commercial Loan Officers with SBA loan processing.
  • Prepares and disseminates reports as required
  • Operates in full compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned or requested.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in coursework, training or experience. Three to five years of experience in business lending and/or banking is required. Credit and risk analysis experience is preferred. Well developed organizational, analytical and decision-making.

Work Environment:

Usual office working conditions with absence of most disagreeable conditions and with occasional exposure to noise.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this position, the individual is required to use hands, handle and feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The individual frequently is required to stand, walk and sit. The individual is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or lift up to fifteen pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
