Portfolio Management Analyst- Diversified Industries

Capital One's Commercial Bank, which services a $70 billion loan portfolio, serving more than 6,100 clients. We span several lines of business to deliver strategic client solutions by driving digital innovations that transform businesses and industries. The Commercial Underwriting and Portfolio Management organization is responsible for working with internal partners to underwrite new transactions and manage the existing portfolio of loans. Our Underwriters and Portfolio Managers balance supporting the Commercial's Bank's growth and ensuring we have a scalable, well-managed business.

This role supports the Diversified Industries line of business. Capital One's Diversified Industries group includes the US Corporate, Mid-Corporate and Sponsor & Specialty businesses within the Middle Market Bank. The group provides financing to medium to large companies for mergers and acquisitions, corporate growth, balance sheet re-financings and recapitalizations. The Diversified Industries portfolio consists of over 350 clients and $18 billion in credit exposure. The Diversified Industries Portfolio Management team is responsible for all portfolio management activities.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary account manager for a portfolio of ~20 loan accounts.

  • Evaluate accounts and credit facilities by performing financial statement analysis, reviewing spreads, calculating adherence to compliance statements & loan covenants, and assessing the overall risk within the client's business, industry, customer base and geography.

  • Ensure portfolio data is accurate, timely, and complete to ensure strong quality and reporting capabilities.

  • Perform research and analysis of industry and market data to complete financial projections.

  • Ensure compliance with credit policies and procedures for existing accounts

  • Compile and synthesize loan, market and company information to complete annual client reviews, and other non-material loan amendments.

  • Support field underwriting team on material loan modifications including renewals, refinancing's and recapitalizations by assisting with due diligence, financial analysis and financial modeling.

  • Prepare and present account updates to senior leadership during quarterly portfolio review.

  • Work with internal partners to assist with closing process requirements.

While in the role of Portfolio Analyst, you will experience the following:

  • Detailed coaching and development of current portfolio analyst skills.

  • Exposure to clients through the participation in client calls and on-site visits.

  • Exposure to more complex UW through mentorship with seasoned UW's, deal shadowing and other learning opportunities.

  • Formal career guidance to assist in obtaining future roles within Diversified Industries UW&PM.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience

  • At least 1 year of experience in financial statement analysis

  • At least 1 year of experience in financial modeling

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other relevant fields

  • Previous experience in underwriting or portfolio or asset management

  • Completed coursework or training in credit risk management

The Opportunity As a part of the Dealer Portfolio Management team, the Analyst is responsible for Portfolio Risk Management and identifying growth and profit opportunities. Responsibilities may include dealer interface/service; continuous monitoring of company Dealer lending portfolios; concentrating on areas of risk and loss prevention. Requires critical analysis and frequent contact with dealership personnel, matrix partners and outside stakeholders. Must stay in sync with strict adherence to company risk management policies and guidelines. Considered analytical or procedural experts representing a unit or team on cross-function process or project results. The Work Itself Monitor and lead assigned portfolio through data acquired from both internal and external sources. Conduct proactive risk recognition. Manage exposure utilizing current company risk management policies, procedures and guidelines. Develop appropriate action plans to mitigate risk and resolve outstanding issues. Ensure wholesale credit lines are appropriate based on credit factors, sales rates, inventory turnover and seasonal/market fluctuations; ensure outstanding remain within established credit lines at all times. Manage exposure utilizing current company risk management policies, procedures and guidelines. Execute all action plans and contingencies. Prepare and participate in Risk and Opportunities Meetings (ROM). Use a collaborative approach with other business units including Administration, Risk, Sales, and Underwriting. Identify growth opportunities within portfolio and demonstrate Business Development for revenue growth. Improve corporate profitability and ROE. The Skills You Bring HS diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in related field strongly preferred. 5 + years in customer service or financial services industry is needed. At least 2 years leadership experience preferred.
