Portfolio Management Analyst- Diversified Industries

Capital One's Commercial Bank, which services a $70 billion loan portfolio, serving more than 6,100 clients. We span several lines of business to deliver strategic client solutions by driving digital innovations that transform businesses and industries. The Commercial Underwriting and Portfolio Management organization is responsible for working with internal partners to underwrite new transactions and manage the existing portfolio of loans. Our Underwriters and Portfolio Managers balance supporting the Commercial's Bank's growth and ensuring we have a scalable, well-managed business.

This role supports the Diversified Industries line of business. Capital One's Diversified Industries group includes the US Corporate, Mid-Corporate and Sponsor & Specialty businesses within the Middle Market Bank. The group provides financing to medium to large companies for mergers and acquisitions, corporate growth, balance sheet re-financings and recapitalizations. The Diversified Industries portfolio consists of over 350 clients and $18 billion in credit exposure. The Diversified Industries Portfolio Management team is responsible for all portfolio management activities.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary account manager for a portfolio of ~20 loan accounts.

  • Evaluate accounts and credit facilities by performing financial statement analysis, reviewing spreads, calculating adherence to compliance statements & loan covenants, and assessing the overall risk within the client's business, industry, customer base and geography.

  • Ensure portfolio data is accurate, timely, and complete to ensure strong quality and reporting capabilities.

  • Perform research and analysis of industry and market data to complete financial projections.

  • Ensure compliance with credit policies and procedures for existing accounts

  • Compile and synthesize loan, market and company information to complete annual client reviews, and other non-material loan amendments.

  • Support field underwriting team on material loan modifications including renewals, refinancing's and recapitalizations by assisting with due diligence, financial analysis and financial modeling.

  • Prepare and present account updates to senior leadership during quarterly portfolio review.

  • Work with internal partners to assist with closing process requirements.

While in the role of Portfolio Analyst, you will experience the following:

  • Detailed coaching and development of current portfolio analyst skills.

  • Exposure to clients through the participation in client calls and on-site visits.

  • Exposure to more complex UW through mentorship with seasoned UW's, deal shadowing and other learning opportunities.

  • Formal career guidance to assist in obtaining future roles within Diversified Industries UW&PM.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience

  • At least 1 year of experience in financial statement analysis

  • At least 1 year of experience in financial modeling

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other relevant fields

  • Previous experience in underwriting or portfolio or asset management

  • Completed coursework or training in credit risk management

Our Underwriters and Portfolio Managers balance supporting the Commercial's Bank's growth and ensuring we have a scalable, well-managed business. This role supports the Financial Institutions Group (FIG). FIG is an industry specialized group supporting a national lender finance business with approximately $13B in commitments, which include Subscription Finance, Leveraged Loans, ABL, and Equipment Leasing. As an Associate, Underwriting & Portfolio Management, you have advanced beyond the fundamentals of credit risk management and are expected to perform most responsibilities with minimal oversight. In addition to identifying risks and mitigants, you begin to identify and escalate trends or anomalies on individual deals or within the portfolio. Primary responsibilities may include: * Demonstrate ownership of a portfolio of existing customers with minimal guidance; may take on more complex or higher volume of accounts * Complete annual reviews and both material and non-material modifications independently and on time * Monitor and determine upgrades or downgrades to risk ratings * Ensure compliance with credit policies and procedures for existing accounts * Respond to requests from all internal and external stakeholders * Ensure portfolio data is accurate, timely, and complete to ensure strong quality and reporting capabilities * Escalate and resolve problem accounts in partnership with other teams and specialists * Perform due diligence on industry and company performance; synthesize research and begin to draw conclusions; may start to lead diligence calls * Perform thorough financial analysis and identify disparities, risks, and creative ways to mitigate risk * Prepare financial modeling inputs with little guidance; understand model mechanics and consider overrides or exceptions * Analyze appropriate structuring options considering collateral and borrower valuation * Write and prepare credit approval documents; provide meaningful contribution to internal meetings, including deal review and pipeline meetings * Coordinate and complete closing process requirements * Begin to shadow more senior underwriters on reviewing and negotiating legal documentation * Communicate with all external constituents; exhibit a sense of urgency toward meeting client requests Additional Responsibilities may include: * Build relationships across function and business to foster collaboration between partner groups * Mentor and train rotational analysts and new hires * Participate in internal initiatives to ensure the business is well-managed and operates efficiently Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience * At least 3 years of experience in credit underwriting or at least 3 years of experience in portfolio management or at least 3 years of experience in asset management Preferred Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other relevant fields * 5+ years of experience in credit underwriting or portfolio management or asset management * Strong verbal and written communication skills with external clients and internal associates At this time, Capital One will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position.
