Why us, why now?

The Portfolio Director II, Marketing and Communications leads the overall strategy and design for the integrated strategic communications and marketing portfolio management practice. Integrated Portfolio Management is a new function and team within the AAMC's Communications and Marketing cluster, akin to account management. The Director II will be responsible for establishing the integrated portfolio management practice, leading two Portfolio Directors as well as managing their own portfolio of business partners and topic areas.

How will you make an impact?

Integrated Communications & Marketing Strategy

  • Scans the organization and works with leaders to identify the topics and initiatives that most contribute to keeping the AAMC relevant and responsive and assigns them to portfolios to be managed.

  • Leads the Communications Portfolio Team to develop integrated communications and marketing strategies for topics and initiatives that cross multiple clusters, involve diverse sets of subject matter experts, and tap multiple communications and marketing fields.

  • Establishes an integrated communications and marketing practice that looks across portfolios with a generalist view and crafts integrated strategies that incorporate best practices from multiple communications and marketing domains including marketing, strategic communications, public relations, content & creative, and digital engagement, tapping and highlighting the cluster's talent and expertise.

  • Leads discussions with the Communications Leadership Team (CLT) and partners with peers to resolve varied interests, objectives, and possibilities to achieve alignment on shared strategic objectives.

  • Oversees the creation of portfolio plans that chart the progress of AAMC's integrated communications and marketing efforts and facilitates evaluation and identification of portfolio priorities evolving team's focus based on progress and tradeoff decisions against incoming opportunities.

  • Establishes criteria by which themes and projects are identified and assigned to portfolios to be managed.

Portfolio Advisory and Team Management

  • Leads a multi-disciplinary team of two communications and marketing portfolio directors who serve as business partners to OCOMM's cluster partners and who champion integrated communications and marketing strategies for portfolio projects.

  • Maintains and oversees the OCOMM Portfolio Program roadmap and uses operational data and insights to make decisions about the program.

  • Oversees the design, implementation, and cyclical maintenance of portfolio plans and service level agreements with partners.

  • Supports portfolio managers in the completion of regular planning and update meetings with partner points of contact to co-create the big picture view and goals for each portfolio and to forecast and prioritize upcoming work.

  • Manages the selection, onboarding, development, and performance of portfolio managers.

  • Applies portfolio and partner knowledge to resolve escalations related to disagreement on strategy or dissatisfaction with level of service.

  • Works with Project Management and Operations Team to ensure that portfolio managers are tapped to participate in the kickoff of related portfolio-aligned projects, allowing them to ensure alignment with portfolio strategies and work closely with project managers to ensure projects stay on scope.

  • Works with OComm Functional Leads to understand and champion functional goals and product best practices.

  • Reviews Tier 4-5 integrated strategy documents created by portfolio managers, them to bring an enterprise mindset.

  • Leads the design, approval, administration, and reporting of the annual partner satisfaction survey.

  • Works with partners and functional leads to prioritize process improvement initiatives stemming from survey insights.

  • Manages the Portfolio Program budget and resources.

  • Serves OCOMM cluster as member of CLT, directing and championing the cluster's mission, vision, culture, and priorities.

MLE Portfolio Manager

  • Serves as the portfolio manager for Member Learning and Engagement Portfolio, a collection of event products that are important to AAMC's engagement of its members and constituents, as well as revenue generating efforts.

  • Develops integrated communications and marketing strategies for MLE's event and learning products.

  • Oversees communications and marketing projects initiated in support of MLE.

Best Practice Ambassador

  • Works with OCOMM functional leads to curate and evangelize integrated communications and marketing best practices with partners, encouraging adoption.

  • Educates partners on roles and responsibilities when engaging with OCOMM in diverse ways - guidance/self-led efforts, operational efforts, and cross-cutting projects.

  • Ensure strong partnerships and relationships across the AAMC enterprise.

  • Regularly reviews functional lead templates and tools, providing feedback on ways to incorporate partner preferences, and to connect the dots across functions and audiences.

  • Within OCOMM, evangelizes an enterprise and matrix mindset and the consultative competency set that advance the thinking.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Supervises two Portfolio Directors. Will be responsible for developing staff, conducting performance reviews. May be involved in hiring the initial two Portfolio Directors, depending on timing.

  • Reports to: Chief Communications and Marketing Officer.

What you'll bring to the role

  • Master's degree in marketing, communications, advertising, or business or equivalent experience.

  • 12 years of experience; at least 3 years of experience managing an account services or similar function.

  • Demonstrated experience in at least two additional knowledge domains - Content and Creative, Digital Experience, Communications Operations, Marketing, and Public Relations

Remote Work Eligibility

This position is eligible for remote work in the contiguous US

Compensation Grade Range and Mid-Point

Grade Range:$137,000.00 - $254,400.00/ Grade Mid-Point:$195,700.00

The above annual compensation range and mid-point are general guidelines. For candidates who meet the criteria, the AAMC's compensation philosophy is to target the midpoint of the salary range. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, as well as internal equity, market, and business considerations.

If a bachelor's degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
