Portfolio Director, Cybersecurity

General Summary:

Leads, manages, and promotes program in collaboration with university leadership, which includes enhancing the quality of the program, developing, and administering new courses, training staff and faculty, and other duties as determined by the department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Leads the intellectual and strategic direction and quality of learning of academic program(s), including learning evaluation, quality of delivery, student progress, program content design and revision, and alignment with employer/industry learning competencies.

  • Leads development, review, and update of curriculum to ensure it meets university standards.

  • Oversees and administers all program components and processes, including instructional design and revision oversight, learning resources assembly, and data-driven quality assurance.

  • Hires staff, and coaches faculty; assesses and develops performance with a view to retaining highly talented faculty; resolve faculty issues.

  • Tracks and monitors program performance through metrics and assessments to ensure continuous improvement in quality, effectiveness, and efficiency.

  • Demonstrates and models highly effective teaching practices for program faculty.

  • Builds and facilitates program communities of practice.

  • Collaborates with department and other university offices on school and university initiatives. Provides input with respect to pertinent program, university, state, and federal policies and priorities.

  • Works with faculty to ensure the program meets student needs. Identifies new technologies, theories and approaches within the relevant field to enhance the quality of the program.

  • Enhances student engagement by resolving student issues and grievances, and overseeing student programs such as academic support, open houses, small centers, mentoring programs, and student clubs.

  • Develops and maintains productive relationships with industry partners, including businesses, organizations, and professional associations and other universities.

  • May be required to facilitate seminars, teach courses during the academic year, serve on UMGC committees, and perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral or terminal degree (education commensurate with field)

  • Minimum of three (3) years of academic experience and five (5) years of professional or managerial experience in relevant field. Prefer practitioner in the relevant field/discipline with academic experience.

  • Must be highly motivated, have knowledge of curriculum development, able to build and maintain productive network of relationships, and have excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills.
