Position Overview

The Legg Mason Private Portfolio Group is currently seeking a Portfolio Associate to work with our Portfolio Implementation and Operations teams in our office in New York City. This individual would primarily be responsible for model delivery and trade implementation functions for separately managed accounts. The Portfolio Associate will also support LMPPG's Sr. Project Manager, as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Model delivery and trade implementation of separately managed accounts

  • Liaise with various affiliate teams (e.g., portfolio management, operations, trading, client service) to transition and invest accounts in accordance with strategy and client guidelines.

  • Raise and invest cash as needed following client directed flows

  • Perform various daily and weekly checks of the account base, e.g., high cash, non-model holdings and respond to ad hoc requests from investment teams

  • Respond to inquiries from Clients, FAs and PM teams

  • Interact with outsourced SMA Service providers

  • Respond to ad hoc sponsor requests pertaining to step out trades, performance outliers, etc.

  • Work closely with Sr. Project Mgr. and Head of SMA operations on sponsor transitions

  • Special projects


  • BA/BS in business or related field

  • 3+ years experience in the financial industry

  • Strong understanding of investment products and securities operations

  • Strong understanding of model delivery and trade implementation functions in separately managed accounts

  • Asset management operations background

  • Ability to analyze problems and provide resolutions

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Working knowledge of Archer a plus

Required: * 3+ years of investment experience in a client facing role * 1+ year of asset allocation experience * A team player with excellent communication skills, computer proficiency and high level of professionalism. * Proficiency in MS Office applications, with advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint a strong plus. * Strong organizational skills and initiative with systematic follow-up. * Must have an undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or equivalent; capable and committed to pursuing CPA, CFP, CFA and or MBA.
