JOB TITLE:

Human Resources (HR) Intern

JFNTMP

JOB PURPOSE:

Perform a variety of duties in the HR Department including, but not limited to any of the following areas: Payroll, Recruiting, Classification/Compensation, Records, Learning, Benefits, Employee Relations, or HRIS. This is a highly developmental role for those candidates considering a career in business or HR. This role will provide significant exposure to the "inner workings" of a progressive department serving a wide range of constituents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform special research projects to assist in the completion of strategic HR projects.

  • Assist with processing HR forms and performing quality audits.

  • Assist with records retention and maintaining personnel files.

  • Assist with background check program on candidates and new employees.

  • Perform data entry into UW's HCM system.

  • Screen candidate employment applications to ensure minimum qualifications are met.

  • Review and approve requisitions.

  • Support Classification and Compensation by researching and benchmarking jobs to determine competitive salary ranges.

  • Prepare reports and perform data analysis; prepare written documentation for job and position descriptions.

  • Assist with HCM data entry; create new & update job and position information within HCM.

  • Perform initial intake of and document customer complaints and concerns pertaining to employee relations matters

  • Scan and enter employment files to electronic storage system

  • Run diagnostic and analytic reports, sparse data into manageable readable content

  • Act as a resource for employees with specific payroll questions regarding salary and deductions; provide income calculations based on individual tax status and pre-and post-tax voluntary deductions.

  • Assist employees with creating timecards, reporting work hours and entering absence requests.

  • Assist supervisor with special projects, proposed policies, procedures and guidelines, as directed.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Working towards a degree at the University of Wyoming (business or HR degree preferred) or LCCC.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with a wide range of individuals and constituencies

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle highly sensitive information

  • Ability to work as a team member and foster a cooperative work environment while working with diverse populations

  • Experience interpreting University, state and/or federal policies, procedures, regulations and/or guidelines

  • Some experience working in an office environment

  • Strong customer service skills
