Assists patients referred to the sleep disorder clinic to obtain appropriate diagnosis and treatment. Under direction of physicians in the Sleep Medicine Department, provides information regarding study procedures, diagnostic findings, and recommended treatments.

Essential Functions:

  • Schedules appointments for patients to visit sleep disorder clinic.

  • Conducts initial education and orientation session as per department guidelines.

  • Enters referrals into Health Connect.

  • Provides patients with home diagnostic equipment and instructs them on its use.

  • Downloads home studies, scores raw data and forwards the results to the physician.

  • Reviews results from outside laboratories.

  • Under direction of physician, communicates sleep study results and recommendation to patients.

  • Assists patients to understand their covered benefits and obtain therapeutic equipment.

  • Dispense CPAP and related equipment: Performs CPAP auto titration; Dispense CPAP equipment and accessories and performs mask fittings; and Assists patients with equipment problems.

  • Maintains equipment and supplies used by clinic for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

  • Performs other related duties as directed.

Basic Qualifications:


  • N/A


  • Associate's degree in respiratory therapy or polysomnography or two (2) years of experience in a directly related field.

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

License, Certification, Registration

  • Licensed Polysomnographic Technologist in the corresponding jurisdiction.

  • Certified RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist) must be obtained within six (6) months after hire.

Additional Requirements:

  • Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software.

  • In order to work effectively with patients, must have effective interpersonal and communication skills and be able to stand, walk, bend, lift at least 50 pounds, hear, speak, and see.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience as a sleep apnea technician or polysomnographic technologist, preferred.

Provide nursing care and assessment for patients who may require a significant period of time for treatment or monitoring prior to discharge. Essential Responsibilities: Deliver competent urgent or emergent nursing care to a diverse patient population of all ages, acuities and conditions. Administer all prescribed medications and treatments, including blood products, using all routes of administration. Monitors patients receiving these medications and treatments. Perform or assist with patient procedures and perform therapeutic interventions for a variety of conditions, including set up, and post procedure recovery/education. Administer medications for procedural sedation; monitor and recover patients undergoing procedural sedation. Respond to life-threatening emergency situations using Advanced Cardiac Life Support and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support protocols and algorithms. Perform basic cardiac monitoring including identification of cardiac arrhythmias. Perform thorough triage of patients presenting for care in order to accurately assess patient condition and determine priority for treatment. Formulate a goal-directed plan of care in collaboration with the other members of the health care team. Utilize, maintain, troubleshoot, assess, and remove PICC and other central venous access lines. Assess, plan, implement patient/family teaching to promote compliance with medical regimen and improve patient outcomes. Coordinate patient flow and direct other clinical support staff in the delivery of patient care within the unit, including serving as a resource for other staff members when needed. Complete duties efficiently, always maintaining safe practice and policies, including infection control, workplace safety, and management of aggressive behaviors. Act as a patient advocate to intervene in member services complaints/issues as they arise in order to maintain high quality patient satisfaction. Escalates unresolved issues to clinical manager when appropriate. Participates in Code Blue and Rapid Response Teams. Perform other duties as assigned. Schedule: WEEK 1: Sunday 0400-1230, Wednesday 0400-1230, Thursday 0800-1630, Friday 0400-1230 WEEK 2: Monday 0400-1230, Tuesday 0400-1230, Friday 0400-1230, Saturday 0400-1230 Basic Qualifications: Experience Minimum two (2) years of experience as a registered nurse in an emergency room or acute care environment. Education Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program. License, Certification, Registration Current RN license in Maryland (or compact state license) is required. BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required. ACLS and PALS certification is required. ENPC (emergency nurse pediatric course) required within 6 months of hire for new employees and 6 months from 8/20/17 for existing employees. Additional Requirements: Proficient in use of applicable computer software required. Able to pass a regional competency exam within 3 months of hire. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with patient populations ranging from infant to geriatrics preferred. Experience in IV therapy is preferred. BSN is preferred. REQUIRED: BLS, ACLS, PALS, ENPC. Two years recent ED experience, triage, IV skills, cardiac monitoring.
