PeaceHealth is seeking a Polysomnographic Technologist - Sleep Center (Temp) for a .9 full time equivalent Non-Exempt position. This position will be working Variable shift with shift durations of Variable.

JOB SUMMARY

Works under the general supervision of the clinical director (M.D., D.O., or PhD) or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. A Polysomnographic Technologist can perform the duties defined for a Polysomnographic Technician and may provide oversight of other staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1.Collects, analyzes and integrates patient information in order to identify and meet the patient specific needs (Physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history), and to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
2.Respond to study participant's procedural-related inquires by providing appropriate information to testing procedure.
3.Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
4.Administers bedtime, morning, and quality assurance questionnaires to aid in patient evaluation.
5.Performs equipment set up, calibration, and patient hookup in a timely and efficient manner and according to department procedures.
6.Oversees and performs difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions. Recognize sleep/wake stages and events by applying professionally accepted guidelines. Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy.
7.Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Associates degree in related health sciences preferred.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • Experience Polysomnographic Technologist high level of sleep disorder work experience.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required at date of hire.

  • RPSGT certification or CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) or

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Therapy (NBRT) and must obtain RPSGT certification within 24 months of date of hire

OTHER SKILLS:

  • Experience in clinical interaction with patients, co-workers and medical staff which demonstrates the following skills:

  • Ability t maintain composure with multiple workloads and demands due to the patient's condition and difficult testing environment.

  • Extremely vigilant and detailed rientated.

  • Ability wrk alone and independently but able to maintain department protocols.

PHMG PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

  • Work requires active physical exertion frequently from 34% to 65% of the time.

  • Ability to lift objects weighing 80 lbs. or more.

  • Work is performed under normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation.

  • Duties require the ability to concentrate or pay close attention to detail for more than 66% of the work time.

Req ID: 172861 Seeking an experienced Medical Technologist to join our Lab team in Ketchikan, Alaska!   JOB SUMMARY Responsible for performing complex laboratory procedures and tests in areas such as blood bank, chemistry, hematology, immunology and microbiology, using established protocols and procedures.   Monitors, screens and troubleshoots devices, tests and procedures, recognizing anomalies, and making corrections to ensure quality.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Evaluates specimens for testing, utilizes appropriate criteria and upholds established performance standards.  Applies established criteria for testing, and analysis of entire process from preparation, conducting test, functioning of devices and procedures to ensure quality test results.  Performs waived, moderate and high complexity laboratory tests. * Maintains equipment and tools; performs quality assurance testing, routine calibration and ensures optimal performance. * Participates in the evaluations of techniques and procedures.  Develops, evaluates and implements new procedures or protocols and tests. * Consults with clinicians, supervisor and other caregivers as appropriate on test results, requirements and testing protocols.  * Gives direction and guidance to other caregivers, trains new caregivers and students, and accesses competencies.  Provides in-service training for continuing education requirements. * Maintains appropriate records for specimens, tests and data.  Utilizes computer systems in reporting and documenting analysis. * Participates in department in-services and continuing education programs, attending lectures, workshops and video presentation as required. Participates in required competency assessment and proficiency testing activities.  Provides (CAP, HIPAA, etc) compliance support.   QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION:      * Bachelors degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biological Science or an equivalent related science.  * Current with ongoing education requirements for continuous certification. EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:               * 2 years of clinical experience performing high complexity testing in a clinical laboratory department preferred. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:             * Certified Medical Technologist, ASCP or equivalent is required within six months from date of hire. OTHER SKILLS:   * Ability to recognize and ensure validity of abnormal patient and/or QC results for testing. * Working knowledge of specimen collection, preparation, and test requirements and factors affecting test interpretation in responding to inquiries * Good written and verbal communication skills * Working knowledge of computer systems such as Microsoft Windows, and Microsoft Office programs * Moderate lifting up to 35 pounds * Mathematical ability to calculate fractions, percentages, ratios, proportion measurements and apply practical algebra * General understanding of laboratory equipment to calibrate and do minor repairs   WORKING CONDITIONS Works in a clinical laboratory or hospital setting. Intermittently (1-5% of the time) works in other office, client and conference facility environments. Continuous (67 - 100%) exposure to moderate noise level. The ability to frequently (34-66 %) stand, walk or sit is required.  Continuous (67 - 100%) handling of small objects up to 10 pounds including lifting and carrying is required. Intermittent (1-5%) lifting and carrying of up to 45 pounds is required. Must have good manual dexterity of both hands and employ fine hand movements to continuously (67 - 100%) manipulate instruments, computer terminal keyboards and other items. Good corrected vision and the ability to do near point work at varying distances from the eye is required.  The ability to identify and distinguish colors is required.
