Dow Electronic Materials in Newark, DE has an exciting and challenging opportunity for an Operations Leader in the Polymerics Department. Specifically, the operations leader for this position will be responsible for leading a crew of 30 direct reports operating a 24 hour operation. In our Polymerics department the processes under the direction of this leader include; mold/cast, skive, and raw material conditioning across three buildings; 5, 7, and 15.

The Operations Leader will have responsibility and accountability for the plant assets, personnel and achievement of the plant related business goals. This position delivers plant based business and administrative leadership to an empowered, work process driven, plant organization. This position is a key driver in the continued implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles in the department.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead area in Drive to Zero (injuries and unplanned events)

  • Drive quality mindset and accountability in operations.

  • Complete the requirements of the Performance Management Process for operators within the department including the plant goal process

  • Coach plant personnel and personally participate to meet business and plant goals (EH&S, quality, productivity, cost)

  • Drive the implementation of Lean Manufacturing on the manufacturing floor including use of Standard Work, Layered Process Audits, 5S program, and the relentless identification and elimination of waste

  • Responsible for executing manufacturing work flow and other productivity improvements

Manage the area spending budget tracking, reporting and forecasting

  • Ensure implementation and ongoing effectiveness of global work processes, operating discipline, management systems, enabling technologies and roles

  • Act as primary back-up to the Production Leader

  • Accountable for department's compliment management including contingency plans

  • Create an environment that fosters team and individual empowerment. Ensure effective and sustained organizational culture for Empowerment.


  • B.S. Engineering or Equivalent Technical Degree required

  • At least 2.5 years in a people leadership position required

  • At least 5 years work experience in a manufacturing environment required

  • At least 5 years of Lean Manufacturing experience preferred

  • Experience with a chemical manufacturing process preferred

  • Potential candidate must have a proven record of good EH&S performance

  • Travel for this role is minimal
