This position is located in the Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection, Policy and Research, Supervisory Policy Branch in the Headquarters of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and provides support in the areas of consumer protection related to supervision, policy, and regulation.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Corporation's consumer protection supervisory activities. Such efforts include supporting the development, implementation, and evaluation of policy for the FDIC's consumer protection related regulatory responsibilities.

  • Initiates special projects involving in-depth research and analysis of policy and technical issues related to consumer protection.

  • Research topics related to consumer financial products, practices, and services that could pose harm to consumers or be inconsistent with federal consumer protection laws or policy.

  • Develops relevant high-quality summaries, reports, memoranda, briefings, fact sheets, issue papers; and PowerPoint presentations.

  • Supports the development, amendment, and coordination of specialized consumer protection regulations, examination, and enforcement policies and procedures for the Section.

  • Assist in analyzing and evaluating existing and proposed consumer protection laws, regulations, and guidance.

  • Prepares management reports and developing and maintaining monitoring systems and mechanisms such as tables, spreadsheets, and databases that track issues, trends, changes and otherwise support the Section's consumer protection policy development activities.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Additional qualifications information can be found here.

CG-11: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least to the grade 9 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes assisting in analyzing policy issues related to financial services or products for banking or financial institutions; assisting in analyzing and evaluating existing or proposed consumer protection regulations or requirements; drafting policy summaries and memoranda.

OR

Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years progressively higher level graduate education or an LL.M in a major field of study related to the line of work.

CG-12: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least to the grade 11 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes analyzing policy issues related to financial services or products for banking or financial institutions; analyzing and evaluating existing or proposed consumer protection laws, regulations or requirements; drafting policy summaries, position papers, and memoranda.

CG-13: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least to the grade 12 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes evaluating and analyzing policy issues related to financial services or products for banking or financial institutions; analyzing and evaluating existing or proposed consumer protection laws, regulations or requirements; drafting policy summaries, position papers, and memoranda.
