This position is intended to be 100% remote but may still be required to report to a given state office due to business need or at the discretion of the supervisor.

Pay for position:

$33.72 - $43.06 Hourly

$2,697.69 - $3,444.46 Biweekly

$5,845.00 - $7,463.00 Monthly

$70,140.00 - $89,556.00 Annually

ONA's mission is to facilitate the integration and inclusion of immigrants and refugees into Colorado's civic, social, and economic life. The vision of the Office is that all immigrants and refugees have equitable access to opportunity and well-being. The Office accomplishes these things through coordinated collaboration across state agencies and with local partners.

This position is the lead policy coordinator for ONA. Designs and conducts research and engagement to understand the challenges that Colorado' s New Americans face and informs development of policy options for addressing those challenges. Collaborates with stakeholders, state agencies and the Governor's office in the development and evolution of policy options.

The position will also coordinate office engagement strategies for key stakeholder groups across the state. Collaborate with various partners to conduct outreach and engagement throughout the state. Work to understand the unique and critical perspectives of stakeholders and how they relate to and affect the work of the office. Lead office efforts to identify and strategize around how to address the most pressing needs of the diversity of New Americans in Colorado.

Finally, this position will be the lead staff member for ONA on all communications projects. The position will work with the Director to develop a brand identity and social media strategy, collaborate with program staff on communication of technical documents to support new program development, respond to media inquiries, and develop and deploy messaging.

Key activities include:

  • Determine the research and engagement needed to define the challenges faced by Colorado's New Americans and recommend potential strategies for addressing those challenges.

  • Help determine office policy strategies by defining and prioritizing potential policy solutions.

  • Identify and recommend opportunities to advance policy strategies through collaboration with local, state and/or federal partners.

  • Develop a statewide strategy for ONA's stakeholder outreach and engagement.

  • Identify key stakeholder groups, establish strong working relationships and ensure consistent engagement.

  • Develop a feedback loop to ONA team members regarding stakeholder outreach and engagement that has been conducted.

  • Develop and implement ONA's communications strategy.

  • Develop and implement internal and external communications materials as needed for strategic updates, monthly newsletters, quarterly reports, and ONA's annual report.

  • Establish and maintain ONA social media accounts (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook).

  • Manage ONA's listserv communications and campaigns.

  • Serve as the strategic lead and ongoing manager and editor for ONA's website.

  • Liaise with Governor's office communications office on media/press inquiries that are handled by Gov's office.

  • Write memos, reports, strategic updates, and grant reports.

  • Copy-edit written communications across the team to ensure accuracy and consistency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience Only:

Seven (7) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position. Work experience to include analysis of legislative or government policies, and communications.

OR

Education and Experience:

A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to seven (7) years.

Required Competencies:

  • Organizational skills: Ability to oversee the analysis of complex human resources, financial, or administrative management, policy, and program issues; ability to oversee and execute data-driven performance management and outcome-based systems and initiatives.

  • Writing & Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with the Governor's office, state agency partners, legislators, lobbyists, immigrant-serving partners, and other stakeholders through in-person and online meetings, emails, and written products. Synthesize complex information and communicate in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience. Ability to clearly draft material for campaigns, marketing, and/or graphic design material.

  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively and build coalitions with key stakeholders, speak and write authoritatively and compellingly, resolve communication problems, and negotiate and manage competing interests. Ability to work well with constituents regardless of position and authority, and adhere to clear lines of responsibility and accountability.

  • Active listening: Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

  • Marketing & Communications: Possesses a thorough knowledge of marketing and communication concepts as well as their application. Knowledge and skills to operate Google Suite or similar, Drupal 8 or similar, MailChimp or similar, and social media tools.

  • Driven Results: Ability to meet organizational goals as well as customer expectations. Ability to work, coordinate activities, and ensure effective performance while operating within strict time constraints and competing priorities.

  • Time Management: Ability to manage one's own time and the time of others. Ability to prioritize competing priorities and timelines.

  • Commitment to public service: Recognizes distinct differences that come with leading in government versus leading in the nonprofit or private sector. Serving the people of Colorado serves as a guiding force behind decisions. Embraces government transparency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience analyzing legislative or government information or policies.

  • Ability to write, speak and engage with government officials.

  • Experience working with immigrants or refugees.
