SEEKING VOLUNTEER GRANT WRITERS

The Volunteer in this position must commit to one-year of service. Additionally, you must enroll in our 14-week Citizen's Academy Class before you can begin the Volunteer program. (The classes are held every quarter.

This Volunteer position reports to the designated supervisory personnel within the Police Department and performs routine to moderately complex administrative and clerical work to support efficient and effective office operations. There are different kinds of jobs for volunteers. Volunteers perform various duties, except actual Police work.

Such duties include: administrative duties, computer skills (Microsoft applications), data entry, filing, typing, cataloging, copying, telephone answering. Volunteers do not replace law enforcement or civilian personnel. Volunteers work along with Miramar Police staff to assist them in some duties and relieve them of other duties so that they can devote their time to more pressing requirements.

As a volunteer, you will support staff in the performance of their assigned duties. With your help, the department gains the benefit of additional hands and minds in the service of the citizens of Miramar.

Volunteers have the opportunity to give back to their country, their state, and their city through the hours they volunteer. Volunteers gain invaluable insights into our City's law enforcement system and how it works. Volunteers have the opportunity to improve the quality of their local law enforcement service through their work, attitude, and ideas for improving programs.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be able to type with accuracy.

The Volunteer applicant is eligible if:

  • You are 18 years or older;

  • Be a U.S. Citizen

  • You have some free time to contribute

  • You have a clear background

  • You genuinely desire to be of service to your community

In addition to interest, enthusiasm, and skills, Volunteers must have a clear background. Before you come aboard for Volunteer service, you must pass a background investigation.

The extent of the investigation varies with the kind of work you will be doing. You will be informed of the background investigation as soon as we contact you to express our intention to hire you as a Volunteer.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assists other administrative or clerical personnel as necessary.

Performs related duties as required.

Position Requirements/Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

The existence of any of the conditions listed below may result in rejection from the selection process. These areas will be explored during an extensive background investigation.

DRUG HISTORY

Cannot have used marijuana in the past two years

Cannot have ever sold, produced, cultivated or transported marijuana for sale

Cannot have used any dangerous drug in the past five years

Cannot have ever sold, produced, manufactured or transported a dangerous drug for sale (steroids, methamphetamine, ecstasy, PCP and psilocybin mushrooms)

Cannot have used a narcotic drug in the past five years

Cannot have ever sold, produced, transported or cultivated a narcotic drug (heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine)

Cannot have shown a history of prescription drug abuse in the past three years.

DRIVING HISTORY

Cannot have five or more moving violations in the last five years or an overall poor driving record.

No criminal traffic violations (DUI, reckless driving, reckless homicide).

DUI Arrest and/or conviction in the last seven years

Failure to disclose Traffic tickets or convictions

CRIMINAL HISTORY

No felony convictions

No sexual offense convictions

No domestic violence or crimes of violence

No misdemeanor convictions in the past year

No affiliation with a criminal street gang in the past three years

Any affiliation with a criminal street gang will require a further investigation.
