Job Summary

Responsible for managing and supervising members of the Support Services Division overseeing Communications, Records, State Certification, Training, and Professional Standards for the Department of Public Safety. The Support Services Captain position is located in Statesboro. The incumbent will travel between the Statesboro and Savannah campuses.

This position has been identified by Federal Law (Jeanne Clery Act) as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), with significant student and campus responsibilities. CSA 's are obligated to report crimes reported to them which occurred on campus, in public areas bordering campus and in certain non-campus buildings owned or controlled (leased) by the University.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise members of the Support Services Division overseeing Communications, Records, State Certification, Training, and Professional Standards for the Department of Public Safety

  • Oversee records administrators to ensure accurate and timely reporting of departmental reports including, UCR, daily reports, monthly reports, and Clery requirements

  • Assure secure filing procedures are established and confidential files are maintained by monitoring the accessibility of Department personnel

  • Assess and purge records annually per Records and Retention Guidelines

  • Consistently communicate with the Chief of Police concerning direct areas of responsibility

  • Maintain, repair, and clean tools, equipment, and work areas

  • Respond to all requests for Open Records

  • Train and assist users and oversee daily system operation and maintenance of police Automated Records Management System (ARMS), digital voice recorder, and other software systems in records and communication

  • Serve as liaison to system contractors

  • Generate reports, maintain files and build and use special reports from ARMS

  • Serve as Senior Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC) for Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC)

  • Ensure training and certification of terminal operators every two years

  • Coordinate with GBI on all matters relating to the agency's utilization of Georgia Crime Information Center and National Crime Information Center facilities and services

  • Supervise radio dispatchers to ensure compliance with the division's policies, procedures, and regulations

  • Participate in interviewing process for new communications employees and make hiring recommendations

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree

Other Required Qualifications

  • Georgia P.O.S.T (Peace Officer Standards and Training) Certified as a basic law enforcement (police) Peace Officer
  • P.O.S.T. Instructor Certification

Required Experience

  • Five (5) or more years of related work experience

  • One (1) or more years experience with GCIC operations, rules and regulations

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • O.S.T. Firearms Instructor Certification

Preferred Educational Qualifications

  • Master's Degree

Preferred Experience

  • Supervisory experience

Proposed Salary

$56,300 - $71,700

This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
