LSU Health New Orleans University Police is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Police Sergeant.

Pay Rate is dependent upon applicants' qualifications. There is an additional $2 Premium Pay, $1 Longevity Pay for hours worked only and $2.50 Shift Differential Pay.

Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Enforce departmental policies, oversee, and evaluate performance of LSU Health Guards and Police Officers

  • Conduct roll call and facilitate officer, vehicle, and equipment inspections

  • Review and sign all report(s) submitted by officers

  • Serve as training officer in the absence of a Field Training Officer

  • Perform all the duties required of subordinates to balance staffing as needed

  • This is a Civil Service Position.

  • This position requires applicants to take a Civil Service test. If you have not taken the 2100 PSE (Protective Services Exam) test and received a passing score, please contact Civil Service to take the test before applying.

  • This position will require selected applicant to be in a probationary status for at least 6 months.

Three years of experience in law enforcement work.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

College training will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of appointment.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.

For some positions, evidence of POST certification must be submitted at the time of the application.

May be required to qualify annually with a firearm.

For some positions, applicant must be eligible for bond.

NOTE:

All classified jobs in State service with police officer and wildlife enforcement titles qualify as law enforcement.

Jobs outside State service that will qualify as law enforcement are those performed while commissioned with the power of arrest.

Military police in the armed services are law enforcement; security/guard duty is NOT qualifying.

NOTE:

Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.FUNCTION OF WORK:

To oversee a full range of police services on an assigned shift with primary emphasis on the enforcement of laws, investigation of crimes and accidents, and providing emergency services and crime prevention programs.

LEVEL OF WORK:

Supervisor.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

General from a higher-level police official. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Direct over Police Officers 1, 2 and 3.

LOCATION OF WORK:

Statewide.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:

Differs from Police Officer 3 by the presence of direct supervisory responsibilities.

Differs from Police Lieutenant by the absence of second-line supervisory responsibilities or by serving as shift supervisor in a large university police department.EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

Oversees and evaluates performance of lower-level officers on an assigned shift.

Reviews and signs all reports submitted by lower-level officers.

Keeps firearms, armory, and other equipment.

Performs all the duties required of lower-level officers as necessary.
