You must pass the Dallas Police Departments background process and the Civil Service online exam to be considered for this position.
First Responder Bonus & Incentive Pay!
$3,000 bonus upon completion of Initial Probation
$150 First Responder incentive pay (monthly) once licensed as a Telecommunicator
Essential Functions
1Receives calls, works the services desk, and interviews complainants to obtain all pertinent information and ensure entry of an accurate offense report and provide appropriate response; determines what offenses should be processed, referred to another agency, or are not a police matter to ensure appropriate assistance is provided.
2 Routes offense information via computer to Police, Fire, or Ambulance sections to ensure prompt and appropriate response; makes referrals to other agencies or city departments and offers appropriate information to the complainant advising of referrals and other notifications to ensure that caller will be informed of action taken or necessary to resolve his/her concern and provide appropriate assistance.
3 Sends requests to the dispatcher when the interview indicates police presence is required to ensure appropriate response
4 Prepares and completes a variety of reports and forms regarding calls received, responses, arrests, warrants and stolen vehicles for various stations and departments, and other teletypes to various agencies; completes routine reports and forms related to arrests, warrants, prisoners, and criminal offenses; trains and assists new hires to ensure compliance and efficiency.
5 Assigns codes from predetermined coding system to facilitate accurate filing and reference of offense reports; maintains and updates various local, state, and federal database systems; codes crime reports to provide crime statistics to the FBI.
6 Reviews reports for accuracy and completeness and routes back to data entry clerks if incomplete or in error; retrieves information upon request from police officials or public.
7 Sorts and distributes reports to ensure proper distribution to police sections in charge of investigation.
8 Performs data entry in the assignment of pre-established uniform crime reporting code numbers to each report in order to classify offense and incident reports for national crime reporting statistics.
9 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Must have own telephone or cellularphone.
Must pass an intensive background investigation and drug test.
Must obtain Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) certifications during probationary period.
No FELONY or Class A MISDEMEANOR convictions.
No Class B MISDEMEANOR convictions within the last ten (10) years.
No family violence convictions.
Cannot currently be on deferred adjudication for any FELONY, Class A or Class B MISDEMEANOR.
Must be a United States citizen.
PREFERENCES:
Must be able to tactfully extract information from citizens and assist Police Officers in compiling offense information.
Requires accurate editing and data entry skills, effective communications skills, plus ability to interpret federal, state, local and departmental regulations.
English/Spanish bilingual skills are a plus.
EXAM DESCRIPTION:
Exam covers customer service interpersonal skills, public relations skills, spelling, editing, alphabetical/numerical filing, math, punctuation, and grammar.
Time Limit:Two (2) hours.

5 Ability to apply policies, procedures, and guidelines relating to non-emergency and emergency situations.
6 Basic knowledge of streets and highways in the Dallas area.
7 Ability to calm, assist, and reassure callers who may be upset or in crisis.
8 Basic knowledge and ability to apply interviewing skills.
9 Ability to type a minimum of 30 words per minute.
10 Knowledge of offense reporting guidelines as established by the Uniform Code Reporting System and Police General Orders.
11 Knowledge of Texas Penal Code.
12 Ability to accurately enter data on a computer.
13 Ability to make decisions based on Police Department policy and state, local, and federal laws and regulations which apply to police reports.
14 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
15 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
