POLICE RECRUIT

CLASSIFICATION TITLE: POLICE RECRUIT

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to train, become certified in the State of Georgia, and prepare to assume the full duties of a Police Officer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Must attend and successfully complete County and department orientations, departmental pre-academy, Basic Law Enforcement Certification Training Course, and post-academy departmental training.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED. Must meet the minimum requirements for application for certification as a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified peace officer.

ADA COMPLIANCE

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials 160 pounds; may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials. May be required to lift/carry a human being, push/pull motor vehicle, and/or do sustained physical combat.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, taste, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
