Description
The Dixon Police Department is opening positions for a Police Recruit to attend the Police Academy. The "Police Recruit" classification at the City of Dixon Police Department provides a unique opportunity for candidates to be sponsored through a P.O.S.T. certified basic academy during regular academy hours and any other scheduled departmental and academy exercise and activities. Upon successfully completing the academy, Police Recruits shall be advanced to Police Officers and immediately begin the field training program to prepare them to function as solo officers.
EMPLOYMENT PROCESSING: Upon successful completion of academy, Police Officer appointees are required to complete a field training program and successfully complete an 18-month probationary period, and in accordance with Federal law, are to provide proof of identity and proof that they may legally work in the United States.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS will be applied. A copy of the DD214 form must be filed at the time of application.

Ideal Candidate
This position will attend a P.O.S.T. certified basic academy and will receive on-the-job instructions to learn more about sworn police work.
Education: Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade. College level training is desirable.
Experience: None required.
Other Requirements:
License: Must possess a valid California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record as a condition of hire and of continued employment.
Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for, and who has applied for, citizenship at least one year prior to application for employment. Application for citizenship shall not have been denied.
Police Service Standards: To be a candidate for a position of Police Officer Trainee, the
applicant must fulfill all of the following:
Age: The candidate shall be at least 20-1/2 years of age at the date of application.
Character & Background: The candidate shall possess traits including: initiative, alertness, integrity, reliability, courtesy, and good judgment; and shall not have been convicted by any state or by the Federal Government for a crime, the punishment for which could have been imprisonment in a federal penitentiary or a state prison.
Hearing: The candidate shall have normal hearing acuity.
Weight: Weight shall be in good proportion with height.
Physical & Mental Condition: The candidate shall be of sound physical condition and of good mentality and emotional maturity, in good health, demonstrable in psychological and medical tests.
Vision: The candidate shall possess normal color vision and visual functions.

CalPERS TIER DEFINITIONS - MOU INTERPRETATION OF CALPERS TIERS
EMPLOYEE BENEFITS - BENEFIT SUMMARY SHEET
Medical: CalPERS Medical Insurance Plans, including HMOs and PPOs. City gives an allowance toward the cost of insurance. Maximum Family Medical Benefit Allowance (2024): $1,859 per month; (2025): $2,025 per month.
Retirement: CalPERS Retirement System (2% @ 60 formula for Classic CalPERS members and 2% @ 62 formula for new CalPERS members). Upon completion of the Police Academy, members will be transitioned into the Public Safety Retirement system.
Bilingual Pay: $100 per month upon certification.
Uniforms: The newly hired Police Recruits shall receive the following items:
Two Class A long sleeves shirts
Three Class B short sleeve shirts
Three Class B uniform trousers
One uniform tie
One uniform tie bar

OBSTACLE COURSE/AGILITY RUN: Run a 99-yard obstacle course consisting of several sharp turns, a number of curb-height obstacles, and a 34-inch high obstacle that must be vaulted.
BODY DRAG: Lift and drag 165 pound lifelike dummy 32 feet.
CHAIN LINK FENCE: Run 5 yards to a 6-foot chain link fence, climb over fence, and continue running another 25 yards.
SOLID FENCE CLIMB: Run 5 yards to a 6-foot solid fence, climb over fence, and continue running another 25 yards.
500 YARD RUN: Run 500 yards.
The minimum score for the WSTB is 384-points. The faster you go on each event, the higher the score.
