Under supervision of the Support Services Captain, the Police Quartermaster is responsible for the general oversight of the police department's equipment and supply function, to include issuing equipment and other supplies to department personnel, identifying and evaluating "police specific" equipment, making equipment and supply purchases, and maintaining inventory records. The Police Quartermaster also assists administrative personnel with the oversight and inventory of other department assets as needed.
Responsibilities
Processes and retains accurate and orderly records
Orders, receives, and distributes equipment
Orders and restocks supplies
Sorts equipment and properly assigns to personnel
Manages and fulfills equipment requests
Transfers information from paperwork to computer and files paperwork
Properly maintains equipment
Maintains inventory of equipment
Responds to phone calls and emails from vendors, personnel, and others regarding equipment
Assists personnel in proper use of equipment
Researches, orders, and prepares equipment for distribution in compliance with State Code, City Code, policy, and procedure
Sorts listed items to be auctioned or disposed and ensures documentation is completed
Maintains close working relationship with outside equipment vendors
Maintains equipment room in a condition so that it is prepared for outside audits
Operates City vehicle to pick up and deliver uniforms and equipment
Conducts audits of equipment
Prepares items for auction/disposal
Assists Evidence/Crime Scene Unit with processing digital photographs as needed
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
This is an entry level position; related experience preferred but not required; law enforcement experience preferred
Valid Utah driver's license required
Knowledge of purchasing and inventory procedures and equipment request forms
Basic computer skills such as Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel
Must demonstrate great responsibility for the care and condition of various types of equipment and be able to purchase, receive, and distribute equipment
Must have the communication skills to be able to maintain contact with other departments, furnishing and obtaining information and displaying the judgement and tact required to avoid friction; maintain outside contact with the public, presenting data that may influence important decisions; maintain frequent contact involved in carrying out of programs and schedules requiring and influencing of others to obtain desired result; and interact with persons of various supervisory levels requiring a well developed sense of strategy and timing
Must be able to use office equipment including a computer, copy machine, and telephone
Must be able to drive a vehicle
Must be able to adhere to policies and legal guidelines to avoid a considerable amount of liability to Sandy City if equipment is not handled properly; independent judgement and tact needed to determine who is authorized to receive equipment
While performing duties of job, employee typically handles office equipment, objects, or controls; may frequently bend, stoop, or crouch; frequently communicates with others; sits or stands for long periods of time; and may move over 50 pounds
