Police Officer's starting salary is $66,719.

Required Experience and Education

High School diploma or GED equivalent and no experience required.
Successful completion of a TCOLE approved Basic Peace Officer Course issued by State of Texas Commission on Law Enforcement and has passed the TCOLE exam.
Incumbent must hold a Peace Officer Commission issued by the University of Texas System and a valid State of Texas driver's license not subject to suspension.
Must be eligible to drive a University owned or leased motor vehicle.
Must successfully complete a minimum six-month probationary review period immediately following commission as a Police Officer. Failure to successfully complete such period will result in reduction to rank previously held.
Must meet certain prerequisites established by Office of Director of Police, Board of Regents, and TCOLE concerning age requirements and physical, mental, and educational standards.

Preferred:

Sixty (60) college hours from accredited college or university.
Possess Basic Peace Officer Certification from the TCOLE
Successful completion of the prescribed Field Training Program.

All offers of employment are contingent upon a verified negative drug screen.

Job Duties

Enforces Rules and Regulations of Board of Regents, institutional rules and regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
Preserve the peace by the use of all lawful means, interceding, when authorized by law, to prevent or suppress crime.
Arrests offenders with and without warrant when authorized by law.
Executes all lawful processes.
Investigates all criminal offenses to detect and arrest criminals and to recover lost or stolen property.
Attempts to locate missing persons.
Enforces traffic law by detecting violations, makes violator custody or issues citations or warnings. Investigates motor vehicle collisions.
Prepares various written reports narrating law enforcement and police activities.
Gives testimony in the criminal courts of this state and the United States.
Confers with prosecuting attorneys, preserves evidence and maintains confidential information.
Confers with local law enforcement, criminal justice and emergency response agencies on matters of mutual interest.
Performs other duties as assigned.
