Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two-year, residential, liberal arts transfer institution that focuses on preparing students for transfer to highly ranked colleges and universities. The College is a hidden gem located outside the Tri-Cities region-and its rural setting featuring 750+ acres of wetlands, bucolic forest, and the state's oldest and largest pecan grove.

Richard Bland College of William & Mary Department of Campus Safety and Police is seeking an experienced police officer (DCJS Certified) to fill an open position within the department. The mission of the Richard Bland College Department of Campus Safety & Police is to provide a safe and secure living, learning, and working environment for the students, faculty, staff, and visitors of the College by actively pursuing a positive relationship with the campus community, preserving public order, providing emergency medical response, protecting the life and property of all, and providing education and training to law enforcement personnel and the College community.

The Department of Campus Safety and Police is community-oriented dedicated to the safety and security of the community we serve. The department is highly focused on a community policing model with core responsibilities of Integrity, Community Focus, Competence, and Impartial Policing.

Police officers have a chance, not only to be pro-active, but also take part in many programs and outreach opportunities offered to the community. Officers are encouraged to create and implement new programs that meet these goals. We are looking for individuals and leaders that embrace these missions and goals.

This position will provide protection of RBC's students, faculty, staff and visitors through the enforcement of state laws and the compliance with policies and procedures and conduct thorough patrols in the department's statutory jurisdiction. As a direct report to the Police Captain, this position will understand and practice campus/community policing, providing emergency medical response; patrolling the college campus; conducting routine traffic enforcement to include speeding, accidents, parking, etc.; enforce and investigate any violations of the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and RBC's policies and regulations, as well as perform all other duties as assigned. This position will perform these duties in order to meet the mission of RBC and the Police Department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required

  • Current certification as a law enforcement officer by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services

  • U. S. citizen

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

  • Possess valid Virginia driver's license

  • No convictions of felonies and/or serious misdemeanors

  • Successfully pass all phases of the police officer selection process to include: physical agility test, extensive background investigation, MMPI, polygraph examination, interview, and a medical and drug screening by a physician.

Additional Considerations

  • Law enforcement experience (preferred in a campus environment).

  • Completed FEMA/NIMS IS-100, and IS-700

  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR
