Patrols assigned areas, investigates traffic accidents, performs escort and guard duties, writes reports of activities, and responds to all calls for service.

Provides patrol services on foot and in vehicle; enforces traffic laws and investigates traffic accidents; investigates criminal offenses; interviews victims and witnesses and prepares written reports; arrests and detains criminals; searches suspects, vehicles, buildings, crime scenes, and seizes evidence; interviews and interrogates suspects and witnesses; books prisoners in jail; testifies in court; other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Must have a high school diploma or GED plus 12 hours of college credit.

Must have a current TCOLE peace officers license.

Must be actively employed as a full-time paid Texas police officer for a municipal, county, or state law enforcement agency that has at least 30 sworn police officers and handles a full array of urban police work such as responding to all types of calls for law enforcement services, with a total of three (3) years of service at such agency. The three years of service does not include time in the academy or working at a jail as a jailor or deputy.

You must have reached your 21st birthday, but not have reached your 46th birthday by hire date as a lateral entry officer.

At the Chief's discretion, lateral entry officers applicants from smaller agencies with similar service may be considered on a case by case basis.

Must provide originals or certified copies of drivers license, social security card, birth certificate, high school diploma or GED and college transcript, and DD-214 member 4 (if applicable).

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen of good character with no felony or Class A convictions

  • Possess a valid Texas drivers license with a good driving record

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language at a high school graduate level

  • Must have normal speech and hearing

  • Be able to follow written and verbal instructions

Possible Disqualifiers:

  • History of bad debt

  • Illegal possession or use of marijuana or THC

Essential Job Functions:

Must have uncorrected vision of at least 20/200, correctable to 20/20 in both eyes (eyesight between 20/100 and 20/200 must have a letter from their doctor stating eyesight is in static condition).

Must pass a physical readiness test after written exam.

Work Hours:

Must be able to work under stressful conditions and occasionally work overtime.

Enforces appropriate Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances, provides emergency response to airport terminal checkpoint operations per TSA federal regulations as well as emergency response to such events as bomb threats, an active shooter, hijacking, and aircraft accidents; and performs other duties as assigned. This position is subject to twenty-four (24) hour work availability, including shift work, weekends, holidays, emergency calls, and special events. This position is considered weather essential personnel. * Patrols Airport buildings and grounds on foot and in vehicle. * Enforces laws, city ordinances and airport policy, including parking and traffic laws. * Responds to calls for service and assistance, including but not limited to emergency responses. * Assists civilians, passengers, employees and airport tenants as needed. * Investigates and reports various types of incidents; investigates criminal offenses, interviews victims and witnesses, interrogates suspects and prepares written reports. * Acts as medical first responder for medical emergencies, and provides first aid as needed. * Arrests suspects and files appropriate charges. * Searches suspects, vehicles and structures; collects evidence; and searches crime scenes. * Maintains and reports on lost and found property and evidence in compliance with legal guidelines, and assists in the disposal of unclaimed property or evidence according to applicable guidelines. * Prepares and submits required reports, maintains electronic and paper files, and locates/researches documents in filing system and computer system. * Guards the TSA checkpoints in the absence of TSA staff. * Maintains positive public relations. * Testifies in court. * Performs other job-related duties as assigned. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is required to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
