The University of Texas Permian Basin's Police Department welcomes applications for the position of Police Officer. The department has positions for Police Officer I (Less than 2 years' experience), and Police Officer III (Over 2 years' Experience).

Salary Range

$48,500.00 - 58,500.00 depending on qualifications and level

Essential Functions

Officer's with the University of Texas System Police enforce the law, provide service, information and aid to all citizens as circumstances require, prevent crime, suppress disturbances, investigate criminal offenses, and arrest offenders. Serves as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).

1.Responsible for enforcement duties for the protection, safety and welfare of students, employees, visitors, and all property within the area under the control and jurisdiction of The University of Texas System. Exercises independent judgment within the limits prescribed by law, Rules and Regulations of the Board of Regents, institutional rules and regulations and departmental policies and procedures.

2.Preserves the peace by the use of all lawful means, interceding to prevent or suppress crime when authorized by law; collect and process evidence; interview suspects, witnesses, and complainants; provides service, information, and directions to students, employees, and visitors; organize, schedule, and present and evaluate crime prevention programs; prepares crime analysis reports and risk assessments; write investigative supplements; compiles, publishes, and maintains crime statistics.

3.Executes all lawful processes; arrest offenders without warrant where authorized by law; investigates criminal offenses to detect and arrest criminals; recover stolen or lost property; attempts to locate missing persons.

4.Enforces traffic law by detecting violations, making violator contacts, placing violators in custody or issuing citations or warnings; investigates motor vehicle collisions; enforces Board of Regents' Rules and Regulations; prepares reports on all activities, filing them with the supervising officer.

5.Monitors and evaluates staff members; and analyzes security designs for new construction security systems.

6.Identify potential security and safety hazards.

Required Qualifications

1.Have a minimum of a high school diploma or HS equivalency.

2.Must be a full-time commissioned peace officer with 2 years prior experience for Police Officer III, or the ability to attend a basic licensing academy through U.T. System Police or Permian Basin Law Enforcement Academy.

3.Must meet certain prerequisites established by the Office of the Director of Police, the Board of Regents, and the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education concerning age requirements and physical, mental, and educational standards.

4.Possess unencumbered driver's license, able to drive a motor vehicle and the ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.

5.Exercises independent judgment within the limits prescribed by law, Rules and Regulations of the Board of Regents, institutional rules and regulations and Director of Police departmental policies and procedures.

Schedule

The department is a 24-hour 7 day a week operation, and as such scheduling is on a rotational 12-hour deployment for patrol officers, maintaining 84 hours in a two-week period. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some sections within the department.

Standard Working Conditions

1.Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.

2.Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.

3.Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.

4.Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.

5.Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
