The City of Oceanside is accepting application for current and future vacancies for the position of Police Officer - Academy Graduate. This position will be assigned to the Field Operations Division.

Examples of Duties

Police Officers patrol assigned areas by vehicle, bicycle or on foot to answer service calls for the protection of life and property. Duties include conducting investigations; directing traffic; making arrests; issuing citations; serving warrants and subpoenas; preparing reports; and working with the community to identify problems and solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must be:

  • Twenty (20) years and six (6) months of age on the date of application and twenty-one (21) years by date of Academy graduation;

  • Currently enrolled in, or have graduated from a California POST approved Law Enforcement Peace Officer Academy within the last three years OR satisfactory completion of a California POST re-qualification course.

In addition, applicants must:

  • Possess a valid Class C Driver's license;

  • Possess a California POST Basic Academy Certificate at time of appointment;

  • Successfully pass a thorough background investigation, a polygraph examination, a pre-placement exam, a psychological evaluation, and a medical examination which will include a pre-employment drug screening;

  • Not have been convicted of a felony or serving probation.

NOTE:

You must attach the following: a copy of your active California POST Basic Academy Certificate. If you are in the last portion of the California POST Academy, a letter from the academy stating you are in good standing and are expected to graduate. If you do not, your application will not be considered.

Your POST Academy Certificate cannot be more than three (3) years old. If it is, you must submit a POSTRecertification Certificate.

Working Conditions and Selection Process

Selection Process:The applicant selection process is divided into separate phases: pre-investigative questionnaire (PIQ), Initial Interview and background process. Individuals must successfully complete each phase before advancing to the next.

Candidates who successfully complete the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list and will remain eligible for employment consideration for a minimum of six months. Candidates who are not selected in the PIQ process must wait one year from the date of initial PIQ appointment to re-submit application for testing and reconsideration.

The Examination Process:All properly completed applications will be screened and the most appropriately qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the examination process. The examination process includes.

  • Pre-Investigative Questionnaire (PIQ).

  • Initial Interview - with Police Department

  • Background Process
