JOB DESCRIPTION:

Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Patrols assigned area of school District in uniform and marked police vehicle to detect and prevent fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entries.

  • Responds to silent alarms and other calls for service.

  • Performs crowd and traffic control duty at school events and activities.

  • Conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations of school-related criminal acts.

  • Arrests suspects following established procedures and testifies in court proceedings.

  • Investigates suspicious persons, activities and conditions relating to the public schools.

  • Performs plain-clothes assignment as requested by an immediate supervisor.

  • Counsels students in matters of good citizenship and compliance with school rules and proper behavior.

  • Provides general assistance and support to school administration and staff.

  • Reports unusual or dangerous conditions or situations to appropriate personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

To provide police and security services to the District.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem solving skills.Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects.Ability to make decisions, enforce statutes and ordinance, including effecting arrest and using appropriate physical control.

REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Must Have Current New Mexico Law Enforcement Certification.

  • Valid New Mexico driver's license with insurable driving record.

  • 3 years Non-Probationary with APS Department

Will monitor school surveillance system; respond to notifications of incidents occurring on school campus which may include criminal activity and maintenance issues where police and/or appropriate police, operations or maintenance personnel may be required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation: * Receive, relay and/or transmit routine and emergency calls to police and other agencies and units as appropriate following established procedures. * Coordinates School Police responses with other District departments, law enforcement and agencies. * Operates and monitors computer-based, multi-frequency radio system, alarm system and surveillance cameras. * Maintains dispatch office records as required following established procedures. * Assists Maintenance & Operations after working hours as follows: * Processes and relays work order forms. * Receives and relays routine and emergency calls. PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE: The minimum expectations for this job are as follows: * Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. * Flexibility, organization, multi-tasking, decision-making and problem solving skills. * Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone. * Knowledge of APS community, computer system, financial and legal requirements. * Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects. * Keyboarding requirement: 35 words per minute minimum. * Knowledge of word processing, database, network and spreadsheet software. * Ability to operate a two-way radio over multiple channels and a multi-line phone system. * Knowledge of criminal and civil law terminology. * Dispatch experience preferred. REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION AND LICENSURE: The minimum requirements for this job are as follows: * High school diploma or equivalent. * Ability to obtain Police Radio Dispatcher and National Crime Information Center Operator certification within one (1) year of hire.
