Salary Range:

  • 2024: $76,419.20 - $105,456.00 Annually

  • Lateral entry up to $105,456.00 annually is available for POST-Certified officers dependent upon years of experience and department size.

  • ATTENTION CURRENT POST ACADEMY STUDENTS*

Students actively enrolled and/or attending a Colorado POST academy may be eligible for in-state academy tuition reimbursement upon successful completion of academy and POST certification.

Academy Reimbursement Requirements:

  • Candidate must be actively enrolled and/or attending a Colorado POST academy.

  • Upon successful completion of all pre-employment screenings, candidate will sign a Training Expense Reimbursement Agreement, stipulating that they will serve as an Officer with the Greeley Police Department for a minimum of 2 years, after successful completion of the FTO program.

  • Note: If the candidate separates employment prior to 2 years, they may be required to reimburse some or all of the in-state academy tuition cost.

Recruitment Process:

  • All of 2024: Application window open.

  • Essential Functions Test

  • If you are selected to move forward after application screening, you will be invited via email to the Essential Functions Test (EFT). The EFT is a series of obstacles and physical maneuvers that represent the essential physical functions potentially required of police officers. NOTE: No make-up dates will be available.
  • Oral Board interviews
  • If you pass the EFT, you will be invited to interview.
  • Background Investigations to be completed by applicant. You will receive a link to the background website.

  • Background Investigations

  • If you are selected to move forward from interviews, you will move into the background investigation phase of the process.
  • Command Staff interview
  • If you are selected to move forward from the background investigation process, you will be invited to interview with the Command Staff.
  • Pre-employment screenings
  • If you are selected to move forward from Command Staff interviews, you will be given a conditional job offer and participate in a polygraph, psychological evaluation, medical evaluation, and drug test.
  • Hire Date: If you pass all pre-employment screening, you will be given a final job offer.

2024 Step Increases:

  • Step A: Annual Income $76,419
  • Step B: Annual Income $79,061
  • Step C: Annual Income $84,157
  • Step D: Annual Income $89,627
  • Step E: Annual Income $95,410
  • Step F: Annual Income $105,456

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED;

  • POST Certified in Colorado; OR Certified officer in another state and eligible for Colorado POST certification; OR Currently attending Colorado Certified Police Academy with graduation date before official hire date.

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record; Legally able to work in the United States and possess a firearm;

  • Be in good physical condition;

  • Have vision of or correctable to 20/20;

  • No felony convictions or conviction involving moral turpitude;

  • No illegal drug usage or related activities within the previous 5 years;

  • No use of marijuana or psilocybin mushrooms within the last year;

  • No arrest for DUI, DWAI, or DUID within the last 5 years;

  • Spanish/English bilingual skills desired but not required - preference points offered for Spanish fluency.

Essential Functions:

  • Patrols assigned area on foot, by motorcycle, in patrol car, or by bicycle to enforce laws, prevent and discover crimes, investigate crimes, maintain order, and answer calls and assist in non-criminal matters;

  • Answers radio-dispatched or citizens' requests for police services at the scene of accidents, domestic disputes, law violations, and altercations;

  • Familiarizes self with beat and with persons living in area;

  • Investigates illegal or suspicious activities, persons, and establishments; Locates, searches, detains, and arrests law violators, following recognized police procedures;

  • Interviews and questions victims, witnesses, and suspects; Gathers and preserves evidence;

  • Performs first aid and provides assistance to accident and other victims; Participates in problem solving and community-oriented policing projects; Directs and controls traffic; investigates traffic accidents;

  • Issues written citations for traffic and other violations;

  • Inspects public establishments requiring licenses to ensure compliance with rules and regulations;

  • Operates police communication and computer equipment to obtain, disseminate, and report information;

  • Attends community meetings to discuss crime prevention activities and crime problems; Writes detailed incident, investigation, and other reports;

  • Provides credible testimony in court;

  • Mediates civil disputes and other non-criminal disagreements;

  • Attempts to de-escalate and obtain appropriate services for mentally ill and emotionally disturbed persons.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, as well as vehicular traffic. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The employee must occasionally lift and-or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers to handle or feel equipment and/or evidence, and in performing required tasks of the position, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to run and climb over obstacles.

Specifically, this position requires:

  • Vision sufficient to perform functions such as apprehend suspects, obtain information at disturbances, service, and accident calls, and to read and review written communications; Hearing and speech sufficient to communicate clearly and distinctly face-to-face as well as over the radio and telephone in normal and adverse conditions;

  • Arm and hand steadiness and manual dexterity sufficient to use weapons necessary to prevent injury or to protect self and others;

  • Stamina and tolerance sufficient to remain physically and mentally alert for short bursts of extremely intense physical and/or mental activity separated by periods of physical and/or mental inactivity.
