The Police Department's Community Services Aide position is a part-time position (no benefits) with a preferred hiring rate of $11.96 - $13.75 per hour.
The Police Community Services Aide:
Assists citizens and visitors by answering the telephone;
Greets the public;
Provides basic information and making referrals as appropriate.
Provides parking services by:
Enforcing parking regulations; patrolling streets and parking lots for parking violations; sending notices for unpaid parking tickets; recording parking tickets; informing supervisor of graffiti, litter, property damage and other issues related to the maintenance of commercial and public areas in the downtown area.
Checks traffic signals for proper operation;
Assists children crossing the street while going to/from school while stopping and controlling vehicular traffic at designated crossing to allow children to cross safely;
Controls children to assure that they conform to traffic regulations;
Reports motorists who fail to observe safe motor vehicle operation in school crossing zones;
Directs traffic at street crossings for parades and other special events as needed.
The Police Community Services Aide position requires the knowledge of basic English and traffic and parking ordinances, traffic laws and regulations and the ability to:
Use communications equipment, such as a multi-line telephone and service radio;
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public in a courteous manner;
Work for short periods of time in inclement weather;
Handle routine clerical and record keeping functions;
Assist the general public in a friendly and efficient manner;
Follow oral and written instructions.
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, and walking; fingering, grasping, feeling and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, the operation of a motor vehicle or equipment, peripheral vision, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver's license required. Some experience working with the public preferred. Keyboarding skills preferred.
The successful candidate for this position must complete a satisfactory DMV record check, credit history review, drug screening, physical, polygraph and criminal background check.
