The Prince George's County Police Department is currently seekinghighly motivated candidates to be considered for
PoliceCadet, grade G-02 positions. Candidates should exhibit good character, sound judgment, honesty, reliability and integrity that blend together with a philosophy for community-oriented policing, and a strong desire to servethe citizens of Prince George's County.
This isan introductory class of work forhigh school graduates interested ina career as a Police Officer. Thisis a full-time position, requiring attendance in an accreditedcollege degree program,recruits are enrolled in up to three classes a semester,whichare consideredpaid working hours.Responsibilities andtrainingprovides exposure to the Police Department's operations;assignments are invarious locations, including
District Stations,Specialty Units and
Bureaus.Cadetsperform technical and clerical tasks which are germane to police work; work is performed and evaluated under the close supervision of a designated Supervisor.
This position is designated "Essential" and the incumbent must be willing to participate as a critical/essential employee during emergency situations in the event of a natural or manmade disaster; special activities/events. Essentialemployees are expected to report to work or remain at work when other Countyemployees are granted administrative leave.
Examples of Work
Police Cadets attend and actively participate in classroom and practical instruction required for completion of the Cadet Program; participatein activities suchas traffic control, radio calls; provide assistance to various Commanders within the Police Department concerning technical and clerical matters; assist in collecting and preparing statisticalreports; provide support for special events, programs and projects; answer, screen and refer telephone calls; log, file, sort and deliver departmental mail; willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the
Police Cadetclass of work.
Qualifications
High School graduate orGED.
Must be between the ages of 17 ½ and 19 ½ at the time of hire.
Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Pass all of the qualification factors listedunder Additional Information and Conditions of Employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or greater.
Six (6) months driving experience.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
To be considered for the PoliceCadet position, applicants must successfully complete all of the following steps:
1.Complete the Cadet Physical Agility Requirement.
2.Pass a pre-employment physical examination and background investigation.
3.Upon reaching the age of 20½ must begin the employment application process to become a
Police Officer; which includes:
Passing the Written Examination
Passing Physical Agility Test
Completinga Personal History Statement
Passing an Audio/Vision Screening
Passing a Polygraph Examination
Passing the
Oral Board
Undergo aBackground Investigation
Accepting a Conditional Offer of Employment
Passing a Psychological Screening
Undergo a Medical Examination - a complete physical (weight should be in proportion toheight)
Complete and graduatefrom the Prince George's County Police Academy
If an applicant does not successfully complete/pass the above requirements, this will result in termination of employment/enrollment in the Police Cadet Program.

DURATION OF ELIGIBILITY: Candidates will be selected from a temporary register of eligible applicants which will become effective approximately four (4) weeks after the closing date. Once a selection has been made, the register will expire.
