The Position

Then apply for the City of Maple Grove Police Cadet-ICPOET program and gain the education and training necessary to become a licensed Police Officer!!  The Police Cadet-ICPOET (Intensive comprehensive police officer education and training) program provides opportunities for individuals who have a college degree outside of criminal justice to enter the policing profession.  The ICPOET Program is designed to help you earn a full-time salary and benefits while attending school to obtain your licensure; no previous law enforcement experience is required.

How it works

Qualified applicants must possess a college degree from an accredited education institution by August 31, 2024. During employment, the cadet will attend the assigned and approved profession peace officer education technical skills program cohort full-time, graduate, and become eligible for police licensure by the Minnesota Post Board. Candidates must have a two- or four-year regionally accredited college degree in any field of study. No law enforcement training or experience is required.

Position Details

The Police Cadet-ICPOET is a temporary full-time benefit-earning position. The Maple Grove Police Department pays for all tuition and required coursework through the Minnesota Office of Justice ICPOET cohort law enforcement skills program.  Candidate must attend either Hennepin County Technical College or Alexandria Technical College.

Program Begins- October

• Attend and actively participate fulltime in the ICPOET cohort law enforcement skills program.

• Responsible for completion of all course work associated with the ICPOET cohort law enforcement skills program with a grade point average of "C" or better.

• Maintains appropriate physical conditioning to ensure successful completion of the ICPOET cohort law enforcement skills program.

• Coordinate efforts to ensure the City of Maple Grove is a equitable, inclusive, and respectful organization and supports the City's mission, vision, and core values.

Ability to:

• Understand and respect the diversity of customers and co workers.

• Effectively communicate with individuals

Need to have:

• Must have a two- or four-year regionally accredited college degree in any field of study outside of Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice. No prior law enforcement training or experience is required.

• Must NOT have completed a MN Skills program or taken the MN POST or reciprocity exam.

• Must be able to enroll and attend a full-time peace officer education program in Brooklyn Park, MN, or Alexandria, MN.

• Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's license or equivalent out-of-state driver's license.
