Poker Flat Heater Watch (Seasonal Msw3)

Poker Flat Research Range is the largest land-based rocket research range in the world and the only high-latitude rocket range in the United States. Poker Flat launches scientific-sounding rockets, and supports scientific research, and unmanned aircraft.

We are accepting applications to fill winter positions. This position is manual-labor based, and the employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

During the winter the job will include moving heavy heaters, fueling heaters and equipment, lifting and moving heavy hoses, and monitoring heater temperatures in addition to snow removal, freight handling, and acting as a roadblock during launch operations when necessary. During the winter months, the employee may need to work shifts on a 24/7 basis.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts; in high, and/or precarious places; and occasionally in confined spaces. The employee may encounter fumes or airborne particles; hazardous chemicals; extreme cold; and the risk of electrical shock, and when working outside, animals such as moose, bears, and foxes.

The noise level in the work environment may be loud at times, and the employee will work in proximity to explosives. Appropriate protective measures must be taken to prevent possible injury.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals and technical procedures.

Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management.

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work independently and in a group setting including following, interpreting, and communicating instructions given by management or lead employee; relating to management and other employees in a positive manner; making efforts to solve crew conflicts; and assisting in providing a productive and safe work environment.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as pressures, frequency, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Journeyman level certification, if applicable, in the craft or trade duties being performed. Possess specialized licenses within the appropriate field; including a commercial driver's license, automotive and/or medium/heavy truck service excellence certification, inspector certifications, state fire systems permit, Certificate of Fitness Asbestos Abatement, etc. Required Experience & Education:

Experience performing manual labor, snow removal, freight handling, and heavy equipment.

Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.

Salary Information:

This is a seasonal part-time, temporary position. Salary based on the Local 6070 pay scale.
