Job Overview:
The Point of Care Specialist maintain quality standards for Point of Care testing in accordance with state, federal (CLIA 88) JCAHO and CAP requirements. Performs all duties related to the training and certification of personnel involved in POCT. Performs all related documentation tasks. Participates in evaluating, documenting, and implementing new POCT systems. Provides technical guidance to personnel. Maintain all POCT related records. Responsible for review of quality control records and proficiency testing records. May be required to perform duties as Medical Technologist in section. Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors, etc.
Qualifications:
Required:
Has education and experience equivalent to the guidelines mandated by CMS in the Clinical Lab Improvement Act (CLIA) of 1988 and NJSDH requirements.
Bachelors of Science required
At least 4 years of experience within the subspecialty where they will be functioning as lead technologist.
Certified ( or, certification eligible) by a Category I Agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT, HIS/HEW)

Essential Functions:
Assists in the management of the section s administrative procedures
Maintains the technical policy and procedure manual for the section in compliance with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies
Operates and instructs on POCT instrumentation assigned to designated department and/or shift
Orders and regulates inventory of stock supplies. Meets with sales personnel as required. Evaluates new supplies as required.
Participates in quality control programs, proficiency testing programs, and CQI processes; evaluates the performance and effectiveness of same.
Participates in the instruction and orientation of new associates and students
Performs all manual technical procedures assigned to designated department and/or shift
Performs all other duties as assigned or directed within scope of department needs and capabilities
Performs troubleshooting, maintenance and repair procedures on POCT equipment and analyzes as required
Responsible for accurate performance and participation in both internal and external quality assurance policies and programs for POCT areas
Responsible for ensuring compliance to all CLIA, CAP, JCAHO, CDC, OSHA, AABB, and NJSDH technical and regulatory requirements within the section
Responsible for the evaluation of new methods and procedures under the direction of the Department Supervisor
Responsible for the identification of patients/specimens in compliance with all hospital and regulatory requirements
Willingness to work weekends and holidays, as required
