Our UT Health Tyler hospital is seeking a Point of Care Coordinator. We are looking for your experience, knowledge and patient care skills where you will be responsible for:

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Responsible for management of the section, interfacing with non-laboratory testing personnel, remote testing areas and participating in the management of the laboratory as a while

  • Acts as technical advisor for issues related to area of responsibility

  • Establishes, maintains and monitors a comprehensive departmental quality control program in conjunction with the UTHET Laboratory Quality Control policy

  • Supervises and oversees equipment daily and preventative maintenance program, ensuring that all instrumentation within area of responsibility is adequately maintained and functioning at all times

  • Ensures that section is in compliance with all appropriate regulatory agencies, i.e. CAP, CLIA, TJC, CMS and OSHA

  • Maintains an effective working relationship with supervised employees as well as peers and non-laboratory employees

  • Ensures that supervised staff's performance is acceptable by performing training, competency checklists and documentation of point of care staff deficiencies to appropriate non-laboratory supervisory staff for counseling and corrective action, as defined by UTHET Human Resources policy

  • Develops, proposes and implements solutions necessary to adopt changes within department in relation to changing laboratory focus or hospital system needs

  • Schedules appropriate staffing in order to ensure effective laboratory-based training for point of care testing personnel and South Tyler technical staff. Trains laboratory staff to perform backup support and troubleshooting guidance for point of care testing staff

  • Defines indicators and participates in Laboratory Performance Improvement program

  • Performs administrative duties as required on weekends and holidays

  • Evaluates, proposes and implements new procedures and instrumentation as needed

So what experience are we looking for in a Point of Care Coordinator?

  • Nationally recognized certification credentials or equivalent

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology or in related science with approved medical technology training is preferred

  • Five (5) years of laboratory experience required. Non-traditional routes to established skill level may be accepted after review of education and experience

  • ASCP certification preferred. Alternate nationally-recognized certification will be evaluated
